Bren 2 14 inch Handguard...odd issues
« on: December 19, 2021, 07:38:01 PM »
Hey guys!

I have a Bren 2 with a 14 inch barrel. I have it pinned with a surefire WarComp and a HBI MLock extended HG. It has weird issues. One, it will stovepipe on setting one unsupressed. On setting 2 it will usually function fine with brass cased ammo...but will not always lock back on the last shot

Here is a video of it failing to lock back using full power 55 grain on setting 2.

Any clues or tips from the gang??

Thanks for any ideas!

Hey man, nice to see you over here.

Some folks have had issues when using HBI handguards with pinching of the receiver, increasing friction on the bolt carrier. Try reducing the torque used on the four attachment bolts. See posts here about HBI handguards. Some folks were able to resolve it with less torque and new nordlock washers, others continued to have problems.

Be careful: those four bolts are also holding the barrel assembly to the receiver!

Ugh. Sounds like I should probably just ditch the hand guard. Oh well.

Well, try it without it first and see if that helps.

The HBI handguard is significantly lighter than the factory contraption. It would be a matter of figuring out why it can pinch the receiver but the factory solution doesn't.

At least you don't have a fireball coming out of your hand guard when you shoot it, as many have, though that might be a desirable feature in extreme cold weather!
