Big gun gone silent…T-90A
« on: July 18, 2022, 06:13:55 PM »
No geopolitics or politics here, please.

Thought this might be of interest to some on the Forum. A walk around of a  battle damaged T-90A with the 125 mm smooth bore gun. An exhibition of a half-dozen destroyed or captured vehicles from the war in Ukraine is currently being staged at a park/exhibition ground in Prague.  The last photo... this staging area was where the big military parades of the communist era was held with a march past on the street in front of the long buildings in the background which had the reviewing stand.

The sign indicates it was "shot down". I did not know the T-50 was a flying tank! Amazing Russian technology.

Translations encountered abroad are often to be taken with a grain of salt [emoji3] (and that includes eg., Google Translate which often takes the wrong context, especially in the use of double negatives, for languages such as Czech). Some of the English language signs for other displays used “shot down” while others were a literal translation from the Czech word used in the signs….”neutralized”.

Of course I was being facetious. Their translation reflects a command of the English language superior to that of many native English speakers :D

"Neutralized" is perfect. Made neutral. Neutered. Emasculated. Love it.

I'm wondering if it was "neutralized" :) by Javelin or some other system? I'd expect to see more damage if tank ammunition exploded.
I read interesting article comparing Soviet/Russian tanks with American, they use auto-load of ammo and 3 persons crew which makes their tanks smaller comparing with American tanks with 4 persons crew and manual load. But the storage of ammo is vulnerable from the attack from the roof (that's how Javelin works) - boom ! boom ! boom ! and nobody survives.
