Shadow slim safety
« on: July 22, 2022, 10:15:10 PM »
Built a sp01 shadow full Cajun pro package thin safety , shadow 2 full pro package thin safety ,both shoot great in competition. Got a czc custom sp01 shadow black standard wide safety’s ,kept barely moving the safety up enough to block the trigger multiplied times ,my grip goes under the safety naturally on the draw. But at the range in slow fire with my grip over the extended safety with the czc custom shadow I can shoot tighter groups than with the shadow 2 or Cajun sp01 shadow with thin safety’s. So…… I’m thinking to use the extended safety in competition you have to change your grip (and you can’t reach the slide lock) and practice a lot to change your muscle memory.or better to keep your standard grip with thin safety’s .the only advantage I see from the extended safety’s Is starting with hammer down and safety on . (Single action only.) Is to get a quicker shot without using double action .anyone else have problems bumping the extended safety up? Which do you like better?

I used to have a CZC SP-01 Shadow Custom Black with the same safeties.  My grip would inadvertently bump the safety on as well.  Swapped out the safety detent springs with the extra power ones from DSPerman.  That gave it the right amount of tension so it was harder for the thumb safety to be activated when you didn’t want it.

With a DA/SA gun I always start with the hammer down and first shot in DA mode and never use the thumb safety.  Prior to holstering I manually lower the hammer.

Yes I do also ..but do you gain any advantage with a higher hold with the extended safety or straight thumbs with thin safety.?

Interestingly enough, when I shoot 1911/2011’s my shooting hand’s thumb rides the safety.  But with the CZ’s safety being angled differently it’s in the wrong spot for me to ride the safety with my thumb.  So yeah, I guess I just run thumbs forward and basically ignore the fact that there is a thumb safety on the CZs.

As far as I am concerned, the thumb safety on a DA/SA gun is not needed and I’ve never engaged it while shooting.  Too bad the Shadows don’t come with a decocker.  I like my Beretta 92G for that reason.
