Kadet 2 on CZC SA Frame
« on: September 18, 2021, 12:55:05 PM »
Hi all,

I hope this will be of interest to a few members.

I have had a Kadet 2 kit for some years that my wife and I used to run on our SP01s.  I sold the SP01s some time back when we standardized on P01 Compacts. The Kadet 2 is compatible with a P01, but ours have somewhat tighter frame lugs than my previous SP01 hosts and I had not gotten around to fitting the Kadet.

Recently I noticed that CZ Custom has CZ 75 SA (Shadow) frames in stock.  Based on guidance from Stuart at CZC for an optimal Kadet host for target use, I asked them to fit a competition hammer and straight trigger with pretravel adjustment.

I just finished fitting the Kadet kit to the new frame (it was also tighter than the SP01s), so we now have a dedicated 22LR SA "Kadet 2 Shadow" for target shooting. Since I had a set of full size "frag" grips, of course they needed to be installed as well.

Range test to follow!

Cheers

Great looking pistol.  Just fitted a Kadet 2 to a spare P-01 frame.  Changed rear sight to a CZ Bomar style and still working on finding the front sight that does not shoot high with the rear bottomed out.

Hope she shoots as well as mine does.

Hi all,

I made it to the range today with my Kadet 2 on the new CZC-modified SA frame. As an aside, since my move from VA to MI I am really enjoying our excellent DNR-operated public ranges.  Rose Lake is just up the road from my home.

Den, in the first photo you may recognize a mag loader that has your fingerprints all over it. [emoji6]  Still serving me well, thanks to you, sir!

The second photo includes the two target sheets I used today. This is at 10yd. - the two targets represent 200 rounds fired using a mix of modified isoceles stance and rested. Ammo was Federal Automatch.

Results:
In the first 100 rounds I had 4 failures to fire. In each case there was a clear strike indent on the round. Every one fired fine on a second attempt.

I also had 3 failures to feed in the first 100. In each case the spent case ejected fine, but a new round did not get picked up to chamber.

I had no stovepipes or other issues.

For the second 100 rounds the pistol operated flawlessly. I speculate there is some break-in occurring with the new frame, and of course I have had a few odd failures with Fed Automatch in the past, as other forum members have reported.

With the CZC-updated pretravel adjustable trigger and competition hammer, the trigger is simply superb.  As has been reported in some other Kadet threads, I would agree that the SA frame as a Kadet host is truly sweet.

This pistol is certainly shooting more accurately than I am, LOL. Time for a lot more practice!

Cheers

Thanks, JW!

Glad your Kadet is also working well.

I'm pretty happy so far. If the setup continues to settle in well with a bit more break-in, I think I have a winner too.

Cheers!

Glad to hear it.  Should get my replacement front sight from Dawson next week.  Only need to move the group about 4 inches up.  May go a little on the tall side, just to make sure.

Hi all!

A long overdue update.  When I originally posted, I noted that after a few failures to fire or eject in the first 100 rounds of use:

"For the second 100 rounds the pistol operated flawlessly. I speculate there is some break-in occurring with the new frame, and of course I have had a few odd failures with Fed Automatch in the past, as other forum members have reported."

I just got back from the range and realized I might provide an update. Since September I have put a couple of thousand rounds through this Kadet on the SA frame. They have mostly consisted of Federal Automatch, and Blazer brass. I have not had a single malfunction since the first 100 rounds.  My conclusion is that a bit of break-in with a new frame setup, even for a previously mounted and used Kadet 2 upper should be expected.

I wish like many that the Kadet 2 had not been discontinued and am sure glad I have one. I expect I should pick up a few more magazines before they convert from expensive to pure unobtanium.

Cheers all!

Looks good and glad to hear it's functioning well. I bought a SP01 Kadet kit for my SP but when it showed up I decided to put it on a spare 75 SA frame I had and couldn't be any happier.

I put together a CZC frame and Kadet like you did.  It is awesome. Nicest 22 pistol behind my High Standard G-D.  I use the Kadet more than the HighStandard only because I’m afraid something will happen to it.  I have all of the Kadet kits, and the Kadet2 is my favorite hands down.  I wish CZwould bring back the Kadet2, I never understood why they discontinued them. They seemed to always be in short supply.

Agree, fantastic platform. These two SA-75 Kadet’s have replaced my other semiauto .22 handguns. Such great shooting guns and both run flawlessly on a whole bunch of different rimfire ammo.
I have zero complaints other than the current magazine prices.
