Settle a debate
« on: September 15, 2022, 03:10:13 PM »

A buddy of mine and I are comparing our setups for EDC and I need help settling the score-

My setup is a Springfield XD with tier1 tactical holster and a kore nylon belt with x5 buckle.

My buddy has a Glock 19 in a tier1 axis elite holster with TLR7. He wears a Crossbreed executive Leather belt.

I feel like we are a wash on the holster but the rest is the debate part.

Why the debate? It all comes down to preference. The only way to truly settle it is a duel.  8)

I agree with previous responses- there is no debate

What you are debating is what your preferences are, what works best for you.

OBTW the “debate” is skewed by the talent , skills and training you & your buddy may or ma not have

That said, I prefer the XD over the Glock- simply because it fit me better.  I no longer have any XDs as the CZP10 and SIG P320s are much better - for me.  Debate over :D

Not sure what the debate is even over. Sounds like yall are set. On a personal level, I really dislike the xd series, so the G19 would win the debate I guess.

This is a nonsensical debate. You may as well be arguing over each others preference for rib eye steaks or filets. There's no set in stone criteria for the perfect set up. You use what works best for you case closed.

Everybody knows ribeyes are better than filets. Meet me in the town center at high noon tomorrow and we'll settle this once and for all.  ;D

Toss up.

The sure winner would be wearing a Milt Sparks VM2, a Mike Pillsbury Belt and a 1911

imo

Trade set ups for a week and then assess which one you like better.

I would say your belt is better, because I prefer ratchet belts like the Kore belt you use, over traditional belts with holes spaced out at larger increments.

He has a weapon-mounted light, which may be an advantage, but many people CCW without one... more important for home defense unless you are spending many evenings away from home.

As others mention, swap and then debate. For me The Glocks just don't fit my natural point of aim well but the other isn't a whole lot better as far as hand fit but I do shoot it more accurately.
When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"?

Why use 911 when it's faster to use 1911 or 9mm?

Love my Kore belt.  Never could get used to Glocks.
I carry a P229 SAS in 357 Sig for my carry gun.  Personal preference.

I like lights or lasers on an edc pistol -- light center hotspot can be used like a laser at self-defense distances.  Why?  B/c you can't always be certain you'll be able to bring your arm(s) to full extension.  Laser is better for shots at distance such as on a farm for coyotes or the Indiana mall shooting where Elisjsha Dicken took a longer range shot.

I question the strength of that X5 buckle and wonder why it being plastic has a riggers profile.  It's definitely more rigid and has greater adjustment than the crossbreed, but the crossbreed belt would serve me better in situations where I'd need to discretely carry.

To that end, your setup screams tactical whereas your friend is more discreet.

I wouldn't want to appendix carry a glock w/o a striker control device.  Your XD has the grip safety for appendix carry.

I don't care for tier 1 holsters, so that's a wash.  If yours is outside the waistband, it again is indicative of your less covert setup.

OWB carry you don't have to size up pants, etc., and most folks find it more comfortable so more likely to carry -- but ability to OWB carry dependent on your state/local laws.  I personally wouldn't OWB carry w/o a cover garment such as coat, vest, jacket, sportscoat, etc.

Between the two of you, I'd personally lean towards selecting your buddy's setup on the whole if forced to choose between only the two provided I could install a striker control device on the glock (safety is a top priority).

The Glock is a great pistol, but I’ve shot 1911s for almost 50 years, and I just can’t get accustomed to the grip or the grip angle.  Between the two pistols you referenced, I’ll carry anything but a Glock (almost anything).
