75B Omega Mag Issue
« on: October 30, 2022, 12:12:10 PM »
I recently picked up a used 75B Omega Suppressor Ready manufactured in 2018. The issue I am having is the mags won’t drop free with the mag release set up for right handed use. This happens with either the one factory mag or the Mec-Gar mag I received with the pistol. Actually, it’s worse with the factory mag. You really have to pry it out.

Once I switch the release to lefty the mags both drop perfectly. This issue is present with the mag break installed or uninstalled, the slide on or off, the grips (factory) on or off. I though a new mag release might resolve the issue as the area on the release that holds the mag in the frame had some wear. I ordered and received a new release from CZ-USA but the issue is still present, just as with the old release. If you put it in lefty no problem but righty is a no go.

I have noticed when installed righty the ledge, for lack of a better term, that interfaces with the mag doesn’t go flush with the interior of the magwell when pushed set up for righty. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!

Suggestions:
1. If there is a difference between the operation of the mags, then it almost has to be in one of the mags itself. It may have been stepped on and gotten bent. Place some straight edges (like a 6" steel ruler) along the 4 sides of each mag.

2. Then remove the grips and do the same with the frame. All those surfaces should be straight and flat.

3. There is a flat strip of metal that is inside the pistol grip, between the rear of the mag and hammer spring. It is exposed only when the grips are removed. If it's not installed correctly, or is bent itself, the mags won't seat or drop out.
In God we trust; On 'Starting Load' we rely.

You can see what is going on down inside the  magazine.

Unload it.  Remove the slide assembly.

Remove the base plate, spring and follower from inside the magazine.

Hold the pistol frame and slowly insert the magazine body into the frame while watching that mag. release "button" inside the mag. body/tube.

Try both magazines, check for differences in how the mag. release works and looks with each empty mag. tube.

Then swap your mag. release to the other side and repeat the insertion/observation and mag. tube removal.

I've never seen a CZ magazine have issue for the holes for the mag. release "button" being off (higher. lower on the body or narrower than the mag. release button) but I've seen other brands of mags have that issue.  I hate breaking on the needle files to "fix" a sticky magazine.  Broke down and used a dremel on the last one (again, not a CZ).
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Thanks for the replies. The magazine break is good to go. That was one of the first things I checked after some research. With the release installed for right hand the mags still stick with or without the break installed. The break is flat as can be.

I will check the other suggestions given, starting with the “trueness” of the mags and frame. Also inserting a disassembled mag to see how the release interacts with the mag. I have some new mags coming tomorrow as well so I’ll see how those do in comparison.

All things are not perfect.

I've ordered a lot of Mecgar magazines for my various CZ pistols.

I ordered some of the 14 round .40 mags. for my CZ75B .40.  Darn near impossible to put 14 rounds in even with the uplula mag. loader.  Once I got the 14 rounds in the mags. had to be forced in far enough to seat and would not drop free with 14 rounds in them.  Down load the mags. to 13 rounds and they inserted and dropped free fine.  Fourteen rounds swelled them up too much to work in that pistol.  Pistol or mags?  I don't know.  I removed the +2 bases and installed standard bases on the mag bodies for the usual 12 round capacity.  No issues that way.

You could have a magazine that's not quite right for the mag. release set up you want to use.  Okay cut on one side, not on the other.

I tinkered a bit last night and tried several of the suggestions. The mags and frame were square with no defects in structure that  could see. Since I have a replacement mag catch I used some diamond needle files to remove a bit of material on the original catch where it interfaces with the hole in the mag body. Once all put back together mags drop free empty and full of course and the lock up of the mags in the frame is solid.

This was my original plan but this being my first CZ I wanted to see if anyone here has had a similar issue and resolution that didn’t involve removing material. Thanks everyone for the helpful input!

Edit- I forgot to mention is also installed the CGW 54420 Ultra-Lite Kit as well and the difference is highly noticeable!

Glad you got it fixed.  It's great to hear from someone who had an issue, worked it out and fixed it.  You now know more about your pistol than you did and made it "yours" more than it was before.
