Primers

Has anyone heard what's going on with Expansion Industries new primer production ?  I always try to stock up on reloading components before elections but this time I miss judged things and I'm running low on LPP's. and LRP's.

Haven't heard, seen or read anything.

I'm fully expecting a "change of ownership" in the House and Senate which should relax things related to the shooting industry considerably. Ten more days with all fingers and toes crossed, knocking on every piece of wood, etc.

I don't have any inside info regarding timing or current status, but I do know Mr. Smissen personally, and I know that he has been working on getting his own primers for years. He is determined to make it happen.

The name of his company, Expansion, refers to growing and expanding his company, not the expansion of the projectile. The ammo he made before Covid was unparralleld in quality for training or match ammo...and was Winchester White Box prices.

Interesting read....

Indeed personnel services shows job openings/hiring at Expansion Industries. I assume that Expansion Ammunition (Carrolton, TX) is the same company.

Yes, the Carrollton location is where I did all my business with them. Their stuff was so good and cheap that I largely stopped reloading 9mm during the good ol days of 2019 and before.

I can't imagine the cost and regulatory hoops needed to build a manufacturing facility for primers/priming compound.  I can only hope that they are successful and bring much needed supply to market at reasonable prices!

If it happens and primer prices go down, I will probably mortgage my house to and stockpile a lifetime of supply in all sizes.  This shortage is going to be the last time I worry about primers.  I will bury them in the yard for storage, whatever it takes.

Cheers,
Toby

He developed his own projectiles and sells/use to sell the powder they use (says to use Titegroup load data). He said coming up with the right chemical compound for primers was a chore, lol.

Is the shortage because people are still buying so much factory ammo?

I have no idea the root cause (insert conspiracy theory here) but that is one plausible cause for this shortage.  The Biden administration has been the best gun salesman ever and all those guns need ammunition.  The big two would rather sell ammunition than components as I'm sure the profit margin is better on loaded cartridges.

I surely hope this gets corrected on Nov 8th!

Toby
