New hammer, not heavier, "bigger"
« on: November 14, 2022, 03:29:09 PM »
I was watching an APEX Tactical video on timing issues with the M&P after you put an Apex trigger kit in some pistols (not all of them show a problem but sometimes....)

Anyway, I saw him using a neat hammer.  I got on Amazon and saw one kind of similar and ordered it.

Will be much easier to insure I hit the darn punch with the hammer instead of skipping off the side and whacking my finger or thumb (or, heavens forbid - the pistol).  My skin will heal.

Anway, the new "work on guns hammer".

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

That's a body hammer for straightening sheet metal.

May be, but the nice large OD heads might help me hit the punch better/easier.

Like Joe going from 9MM to .45 for bullseye, the big bullets may hit the same spot but they cover more paper (and sometimes a line between scoring rings.)

The bigger head should be a benefit to me, and my fingers. ;)

It's a gun hammer now.

Nice looking gun hammer M1A4ME, thanks for sharing.

Seeing as how we are talking about hammers. I started polishing the face of all my gun hammers. So not to leave any marks on the stuff i hit with the hammers. Learned it from Mark Novak. He has a good preservation gunsmthing channel on youtube.

Well Tok, I just went "down the rabbit hole" with some of those videos.  Several interesting videos I just watched and more to go back to watch later.  I don't think most of us would come up with the idea of moving metal with a hammer vs. just filing off the offending "bumps/lumps".

Had to watch the Krag Jorgensen video, too (among others) as I once found the poor remains of an old Krag buried in woods behind my in-laws house.  Figure it was used during a shoot out between moon shiners and revenooers during the fighting that went on up there during Prohibition.  That area was called "Squat and Dodge" to this day due to the fighting.  The saying way, "If you're going up there you better be ready to squat and dodge."

The hammer got it's break in use today (taking the sear housing out of the M&P 2.0 .45 acp Compact) to figure out why the thumb safety decided to stop working.  Easy fix.  Seen it on the very first M&P I ever bought 12 years ago or more (1.0 9MM).  Same symptoms, same fix.  Tweaked the right side safety lever up just a bit to keep the trigger bar from hitting it and riding up over the top of the right side safety lever/arm.

Oh, hammer worked great.  No contact with the fingers holding the punch occurred.  And, I'll need to learn how to use it.  First time I drove the pin back in I went too far to the left.  Flipped the frame over and drove the pin too far to the right.  Flipped the frame back over and did my best to slow the hammer down and that time it was just right.
