Original Tactical Sport worthwhile upgrades
« on: January 26, 2023, 05:34:20 AM »
So after been living under a rock for some time I dusted off some pistols, namely my CZ 75 [original] Tactical Sport in order to start up some local competitions. Also, I literally just learned about the TS2, TS2RG, TS2DB, even the S2SA sort of surprised me (as I modded my SP01 to SA).

Was wondering what are people's opinions on the Original, dare I say Old School, TS compared to the newest family members.

And what, if any, upgrades would you go for in order to even out the playing field...or perhaps even a downright sell?(!)

Comp hammer? Aluminum flat or slightly curved trigger? etc etc.

Griz,

If you are just starting out in competition, your original TS is going to be a great platform (arguably 100% competitive against the latest CZ variants).  There isn't enough difference between that and the new TS2 Orange to matter with a new shooter.  I assume yours is 9mm?  I'd put together the required gear and go compete.  You'll quickly learn what works and doesn't on the range.  You'll be better off spending $$ on ammo and training before you'll realize any benefit to upgrading pistols.

USPSA limited is the division for the TS variant.  9mm will shoot minor, 40 S&W will shoot major.

Cheers,
Toby

Yup, 9mm.

I've had/have "tactical belts" and done local club shoots with great success, but want to set a long-term goal to start in an IPSC comp (being located in Europe). Perhaps even this year but realistically I can see this year as prep and next year for actual competition. Plan to compete in some steel challenges and whatnot locally.

I have one of them 1st gen TS in 9mm.  Best out of the box factory trigger IMO.  The 3 things I did to make it 'fit' me better - A new safety from CZ Custom (factory safety is just too far forward for my liking), and grinded down the factory "pineapple" grip stippling (most obnoxious ever came with a pistol IMO), and lastly, chopped 1/2" off the dust cover on the frame for better weight distribution (I would have take off a bit more but the serial number is in the way). Otherwise it is a great competition ready pistol for the money so I would just run with what you have unless you want to tinker with it like I did.

Grip reduction on the original TS is the best modification I made.
