Did you just buy a CZ 75 short rail / short slide on gunbroker?
« on: November 27, 2022, 11:53:07 PM »
If you happened to buy a CZ 75 short rail / short slide on gunbroker, and this image is the closing auction, you may want to look into that box. The original short rails came in an orange box. I mean, that box in the image is depicting a gun that wasn't even designed yet. So it is obviously unrelated. Just hoping someone here didn't pay a high price for a decent short rail with a useless box.

All things considered though, the price isn't exactly high. Just that it may have gone for more than it should have because someone who didn't research it thought "oh, box and test paper is legit original and makes for a better collection" ... but not if it has nothing to do with the gun. So... just a public service announcement... if this was you, you might want to consider opening a discussion with the seller because this is sort of in the avenues of fraud if you ask me. The listing didn't specifically say the box was related to this gun, but for the love of man it should have clarified that. It's just rude not to.

I would say a reasonable price for a 78 short rail these days is about $2,000 in excellent shape. Serial was 12383. Even with the minor blemishes that would be fair without the box. If the box was legit real, with test papers, it could be a full $1,000 more. But this auction... I'm calling bamboozle here.

I’ve been watching too and saw this. I believe that seller is the importer for the recent short rails and has been listing one every couple of weeks - they have another short rail up right now.

If you mean this one by jbhd, he's a stand up guy and can totally be trusted:
https://www.gunbroker.com/item/958948645

I know him. I actually bought mine from him and he is indeed selling off his private collection. He has 2 more, and the last 2 are super desirable if unfired hardcore complete packages are your thing. I'm not that fanatic. I want to shoot the legend, not just hold it and marvel at my "precious" as it were. I'm actually the guy in the note that reminded him the one he listed is a '79 and not a '77.

I assumed the one in my original post was a consignment by someone who either doesn't specialize in these gems, or didnt care and assumed internet idiots would fall for the gambit. But, as you can see, the one listed right now by jbhd has the original box and it is legit.

If the payment options spook anyone, consider the recent changes to the online payment gateway laws. If he took card payments he would be liable to pay 35% to uncle sam, or take your chances trying to evade that. Money orders haven't caught up to the online standards so 3k in money orders might as well have never happened. If I ever sell my short rail, you can bet I'll do the same thing.

No it’s not that seller. The other short rail up right now, with another mismatched box. That company is the importer in Minot, as its import marked by them. Probably has a stack of short rails and slowly selling them every other week.

If your acquaintance wants to avoid taxes he is welcome to sell me his short rail…if the price is right!

Gee Whillickers! My estimate on that box may have been low. Jb's last one just sold for almost $6,000. Crazy! That's a bit out of my league there.
