Shadow 2 Primary Machine replacement slide
« on: December 28, 2022, 09:14:34 AM »
Hello all,  new Shadow 2 shooter here.  I recently acquired a Shadow 2 in the Urban Gray color scheme that my LGS had used.  Upon my detailed inspection, it is almost new, can't see sign of being fired.  Good for me!  I shoot in a series that has recently changed to allow RDS; my pistol is not optics ready.  I have looked at having the slide milled, CZ Custom, CGW and Primary Machine,  all shops with great reputations.  I know there are other shops out there as well, and I'll absolutely take your informed advice if you believe they are reputable.

So, after looking at the cost of slide milling, refinishing, and other ancillary costs, for a little bit more, I can purchase a complete slide, milled and lightened, such as the Primary Machine Harbinger or CZ Custom complete slide.  With this in mind, I have two pistols, one with traditional iron sights and the other with an RDS and lightened.  Anybody gone down the same path?

Additionally, I shoot in a series called The Tactical Games, combines strongman type fitness with shooting (rifle and pistol).  It would be advantageous if the RDS pistol had a failure to slap on the other slide and continue the match.  Probably not a common scenario, but this will be the first year of widespread RDS use in the matches and we'll see how rugged many of the setups are.  I have been shooting a Sig X5 Legion this past year.

Thanks!

I went a similar route with my P10C.  I had a non OR slide.  I decided to buy a full upper from CZC with the optic cut, window cut and weight reduction.  This isn't a serialized part so no FFL was required.  Also no lead time as it was a ready to ship slide.  I'm happy with it, and I have the factory upper as a backup or for spare parts.

I've been eyeing the Harbinger as well, it's just a freaking sweet looking slide and would look fantastic with my CZC stainless barrel.  But my Shadow 2 is already optics ready and I simply cannot justify the purchase.  Maybe someday...

I had my Shadow 2 milled for a red dot, then somewhere along the line acquired a spare S2 slide for whenever I want to shoot iron sights.

The interchangeability of the two slides works well, may be a little redundant.  But if you’re serious about competition its good to have a backup gun or at least some spare parts if the primary goes down during the match.

Thanks gents!  I emailed Primary Machines yesterday regarding when the next production run would be and to my surprise, the CEO answered and said they had 5-10 remaining and would be posting them in the afternoon.  SCORE!  I ordered the Harbinger 2 right after that.  Now, next question is whether or not to purchase a barrel and guide rod assembly and have two complete uppers.  Both CZ Custom and Barsto have barrels available.  Hmmm...

It may surprise you to know that you can PM him here on the CZF. He's a regular, contributing member with 1100 posts. Goes by the name of Raining_Brass .

There were discussions at one time about getting him his own sub-forum... similar to Cajun Gun Works sub-forum... but that fell through. I don't know all the details, but it was not about money. This forum REALLY does try to bring all the major players in the CZ world, here to our members.

Hope this helps.

I've tried both a BarSto and CZC barrel with my Shadow 2 and I had way better luck with the CZC one.

Thanks AZ Gun Guy!  I see that the CZC barrels are available.  I can't seem to find the stainless steel guide rod anywhere though.

Is there a reason why you can't use your current barrel and guide rod?

Great, now when are they going to do P07 and P09 slides?  Two years from now?

@ PA USPSA, I’ve gone this far, may as well have an almost completely custom pistol.   As I said previously, if I have an RDS failure, I can swap uppers and be back in business.  I may try some other competitions and a stock upper will allow me to compete in Production division.  We’ll see.

@ Glock 24, I just emailed their help desk and got the answer that they had some hiding in stock and we’re going to list them. Can’t hurt to ask.  😉
