Eureka!
« on: January 03, 2023, 05:03:49 PM »
I stumbled across something interesting today. I read an old article last month. The gentleman was talking about zero stress barrel installation. Why not a cz? I reinstalled my IBI barrel and torqued the barrel grub screws to 15 inch pounds of torque instead of the normal 35 inch pounds.
Went to the range today, and what a surprise. My groups before, using sk long range match averaged .9 moa. Today with 15 inch pounds of torque, the largest was a little more than .4 moa, and the smallest was .254!
I think I'm on to something. 10 five shot groups at 100 yards. Happy!
Granted this is one rifle and 10 five shot groups only. I'm going to keep on shooting to see if it's true.
Note that the point of impact was six inches higher.

Hey, that sounds interesting.  Where was that article ?  Can you scan it or make a pdf?
I'd recently read something JAIA (or Justin Amateur- depends on where you catch him) noting he uses lower than 'OEM suggested' torque - “ CZ455...barrel grub screws 30 to 34 inch-lbs,
any more has shown to squeeze the chamber out of round,
slug testing by gunsmiths provided the information.
Something about lubricant and threads lowering torque needed.”
And he indicated that unless you thoroughly clean both the screws and the barrel threads there will be lube there.  I hope your 15 i-p doesn't work loose, but that's about what I use on scope rings that take a lot of beating, too.  Do you Loctite them ?  That counts as lube, too!
You didn't say what model you're using this in, I haven't tried this yet in my 455 SS-Lux.
Please Update this project.

The make is a 457 receiver. IBI barrel. No thread locker, just dry 15 inch pounds. The article is from a 94 or 95 precision shooter. Coffee? I'm going to try it out on some other cz's that I have.

Would be interesting to slug the chamber and measure at different settings to see how much the torque effects chamber and leade.
