CZ-527 wont open bolt
« on: September 09, 2003, 08:28:47 AM »
I have a CZ-527 bolt-action rifle in 223 Rem. With Russian-made Silver Bear ammo, after shooting 100 rounds or more, some shells start getting stuck and are hard to extract.  I have to really force the bolt upward that last 10 degrees to get the shell out.

Is this normal? I blamed it on the soft zinc casing and on
over-heating... Am I wrong? Should I stop when shells become hard to extract?

Thanks for your input!

This sounds completely normal from a new rifle: the locking lugs are getting slowly lapped(very tight tolerance). If dry cycling your bolt a few 100 of time this will gradualy dissapear, this is part of breaking in cycle. Some people use a bit of moly grease on the rear of the locking lug(only to be done in hot climate).

All the best,
Fred

Thanks for your reply.
No, unfortunately, this is not a new rifle.
I bought it used.

I meant to say that whenever I go to the range, after
shooting >= 100 rounds of Silver Bear ammo, the bolt starts to get very difficult to rotate all the way up, and the extraction becomes
difficult.

ammo has a lacquer on it. The taper of Russian designed cartridges prevents jams. 223 is a straight case with little taper. The lacquer melt when large amounts are fired and causes sticky cases which jam in an auto. Bolt guns cam the round loose. change your ammo and fix your proble,:D
