Looking at CZ's Europe site I see that they offer a CZ 527 Varmint with a Walnut stock and a 26" heavy barrel. Does anyone own one of these?
How would this model compare to the Varmint/Laminate & the Varmint/Kevlar?

I've seen various(not CZ's) rifle with laminated(wood venier) stock fail abruptly under impact of shooting, I'm not talking about one but many (from a top blackpowder company), yet well laminated stocks can endure a lot of abuse(WW-2 laminated stocks which were on M-98's).

The top quality product is composite material, these have a very very low expansion coeffiency due to moisture which wood will swell up. The filled up(urethane-foam) rear part of the stock sound like hell if bumped against a tree branch (spooks off animal if used to hunt)

The wood(walnut) is much more appealing to the eye but will swell & distort if exposed to a humid enviroment.

Basically it boils down to if you like your rifle to be nice or a tack-driver under extreme arsh conditions.

I personnaly like the walnut stock;)

Thanks for the reply Fred.
If you look at this rifle on the czub.cz site it lists it as 7.27 lbs with a 25.59 inch barrel. the comb on the stock appears to drop a little more than the American version but less than the other models.
This version weighs less than the Kevlar and Laminate versions but has a longer barrel.
I was told that this model was made for the American market but not widely imported so I would expect the same fit and finish that the American market CZs have.
I don't intend any harsh weather conditions usage and will probably freefloat the barrel and bed the reciever.
Since I can get this version for less than the Kevlar/Laminate versions, have less weight and a longer barrel I think that it is a good choice.

Don't forget to reseal the barrel channel once free-floated(don't forget to take this in consideration when taking wood out from the channel thus take out more as the wood will swell from the urethane finish. Personnaly this is my next to buy rifle.

NICE CHOICE:D
