This round has super ballistics with low recoil to boot. Flexible enough for varmint or deer hunting:) . Bigger wildgame should not be attempted although legal in various states & countries. The CZ-550 set-trigger is candy, CZ's firing mechenism is an improved Mauser 98's(quicker lock-time). Overall a super choice;)

I'm glad to hear that. I think I've run into a problem that is finding ammo. When I went looking for 6.5x55 I couldn't find any. I did find a couple of boxes of 7x57. Anyone had any experience with this round.

My vote is for the 6.5 X 55, but then I am a reloader.
Brass and bullets are easy enough to find by going online
to buy. ( Same goes for ammo. )
The 7 X 57 is a great caliber also though, you can't go wrong with
either one. Several of us have used the 6.5 X 55 for about 3 years
now here in the Texas Hill Country. It gets the job done without being
too much at the closer ranges. ( Like under 50 yards. )
Accuracy has been great, with groups under an inch @100 yards
being the norm. Of course, that's using reloads. Alliant Reloader 22 powder with 140 and / or 160 grain bullets being our preferred loads.

I have a CZ550 FS in 6.5 x 55.  Sellier & Bellot makes a 131 grain soft point that is very accurate in my rifle and should be a perfect deer load.  6.5 x 55 has killed more moose than any other cartridge.  The offerings from US ammo firms are limited which may be why some don't recommend it for larger game than deer.  I'm trying out three deer handloads this weekend that a friend loaded for me.
All three use a Hornady 140gr SP
1)36gr IMR 4895 w/RWS primer
2)46gr H4831 w/CCI 200 primer
3)36gr 3031 w CCI 200 primer
Dunno if any will shoot better than the S&B but it'll be fun either way.  Just my .02;)

The problem is I don't hand load. I don't have the experance and to be quite frank I'm nervous about handloading. Don't get me wrong I'm glad you can. So I stick with factory ammo.

I know that Remington does in both rounds. I will have to check Winchester and Federal.

Hello,
I've used Federal Power Shok 140gr in my CZ550 and they work great.

Anybody use 160gr RN? I've been meaning to try them after shooting some in my father's 1903 Mannlicher-Schoerner in 6.5x54 MS.

This is a terrific gun, I always wanted a full stock fine bolt gun..well about 2 years ago I bought one of these and it is a winner !!! will shoot S&B factiry ammo into 1.5 inches at 100 yards all day long. Natchez had the ammo for about 8 bucks a box when I bought the gun..so I bought 10 boxes so the brass would be the same for hand loading. The 7X57 round is one of the most versitle on the market..and unless you are going for really big game it will do most anything on the USA except for Bear and Moose (Elk) , this is a beauty of a gun (can you tell I like mine) for a great price.
