IWB vs. OWB Carry
« on: March 08, 2023, 10:19:35 AM »
I have carried IWB for many years.  Recently I started OWB carry, mostly for comfort reasons.  My primary IWB gun was a BHP, while full size very thin.  The gun I started OWB carry was a CZ P-01.  This is compact gun, while a little thicker than a BHP not as thick as a Sig 229.  I got a High Noon topless holster.  I still want to carry concealed, and have a t-shirt w/ a untucked shirt or sweatshirt over the gun.

My observations are that carrying OWB is MUCH more comfortable.  One downside is that the gun prints a little more.  W/ my setup the primary reason is that the gun is not pulled as tight to the body (carrying in a 3:30 - 4:00 position) resulting in the pistol butt sticking out a bit.  Not the end of the world, but tighter would be nicer.

IWB forces me to dress around the gun and wear baggy pants - not for me.

You'd be surprised that 99% of folks don't see you print.  There MAY be places you absolutely don't want to print, but that's up to you.

I also won't ever carry AIWB for a number of reasons.  If I did it would be DA/SA only.

I've carried owb in the 3-5 position for many years now in pancake style holsters like the High Noon. IWB just is not for me ever. I buy my cover shirts on the loose fitting side and printing is not an issue. Yes briang2ad is also correct most people are never going to notice even if you do print a little.

I use to carry almost always IWB but got tired of buying larger pants in order to fit the holster.  l’m a leather holster fan but have found that the kydex holsters with the flat concealment belt loops really holds the pistol closer to my body than any of the leather holsters I own.

Approximately 2:45 works for me both iwb or owb. Each conceals fine even under a t shirt. Either way, I like a good amount of forward tilt. Pistol is accessible even while sitting.

IWB with a new holster/gun is almost always uncomfortable for me, till I get used to being gouged in the same spot all the time.  But it's to much better hidden that's the only way I conceal carry.  And have one, sometimes two, holster pouches IWB on the left side.

An IWB holster with two clips keep the holster/gun in position better.  Not as likely to slide on the belt one way or the other and not as likely to tip one way or the other.

I also like the one I have that allows me to cant the pistol forward so the bottom of the pistol frame is further forward that a pistol carried vertically.

Yeah, baggy shirts, t-shirt between my skin and the holster/pistol grip.  Gets hot down here (and muggy) in the summer but sweating isn't the worst thing that could happen to me.  I'd be sweating even if I wasn't carrying.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?
