Milling a Shadow 2
« on: February 23, 2023, 12:13:07 AM »
Has anyone here sent their Shadow 2 in to get the slide milled cut for an optic? Is it worth it or do you wish you would have bought the factory optics ready model ?
Can you have the slide direct milled for a specific optic cut? No plate?

Who does this type of work ?? Thanks

I sent in my CZ Accushadow 2 in to CZ Custom in Mesa for their RDS plate cut.  It's a great system that allows you to have both a production gun and a carry optics gun.  You just have to purchase the plates (fixed sight and optic plates).  The plate is captured in the slide and thus the screws are there only to hold it from sliding out (not load bearing).

I'm running an SRO and have had no issues over ~700rds now.

Cheers,
Toby

I’ll echo tdogg.

I bought a Shadow 1 from CZC milled for their plate system last August.

The only issue I had was when I used gunscrubber in the FP channel and it attacked the Loctite holding the plate screws. My fault, not theirs.

3700 +\- trouble free rounds since then.

Are the CZ custom plates steel? Or aluminum?

They make both depending upon your needs.

Can you do a direct mill where the optic should not need a plate? Not sure if the shadow has enough steel/meat for the threads.

Hey Dogman, I just replied to another one of your posts, search on Wicked Arms in Baton Rouge LA.  They have done 3 of my CZ platforms.  I like the way John mills for your optic, especially the SROs.  He gets the optic LOW on the platform.  Personally, due to the optic height I prefer direct milling!  I’m not interested or concerned in the “reselling value” of a CZ due to the optic being milled directly on the slide versus using an adapter plate versus an optic ready.  I set my platforms up to shoot!!

Cajun Gun Works also does this. Very happy with mine.

If you get s factory milled shadow 2 the slide is wider in the back and no rear serrations. May look better with mounting plate not hanging over the sides ?🤔

Yes you can. Several companies have figured out how to direct mill a SRO/RMR/Holosun optic to a Shadow 2 or SP-01 slide. Check out Impact Machine, CGW, Primary Machine, and I sure there are others. The best IMO was Fire4Effect that added two inserts on either side of the slide where the mounting screws go to give the slide a little more width and meat for the screws. Unfortunately F4E went out of business but I believe Impact Machine took over their patented design.

I had CGW mill a slide for me with the dpp footprint for direct mounting without a plate. Love it

Another satisfied Cajun Gun Works slide milled for the direct mount of a Delta Point Pro optic.  Rock solid mount, lower to the bore, tolerances and workmanship are impressive and impeccable to say the least.  Gun is remarkably accurate.
