Amazing cz457
« on: September 07, 2022, 02:42:04 AM »
It's amazing how little stock contact effects accuracy. I put in letting ink on my Cz457 to see how much contact I have between the barrel and stock. The black on the stock is where the action makes contact. So little contact and it still shoots moa at 100 yds with my control ammo.(wolf match extra from 2016). I put it in a chassis and still shoots same. Go figure.

Greetings, CZ's are wonderful rifles, and always shoot above their pay grade, but remember, they are .22rf, don't have much recoil, and don't  require an extremely tight fitting stock, or excess action screw torque, 20in.lbs. max!

20 inch pounds is where it's at. I made 15 thousandths shims fromt and rear. Seems to have stopped some of the fliers.

Have you given thought as to bedding the action?

I don't think much improvement can had by bedding the action. Shims showed very little improvement. Shot it in a chassis and didn't see any improvement over what I had.
High quality ammo and barrel would do it, but I have one already.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

I think I've gone as far as I can with this rifle, leaving it stock. I previously lapped the barrel. I polished it with  ISSO bore paste.
After shooting one hundred rounds, groups were around one inch at one hundred yards with mid tier ammo (sk long range match). I know that with higher grade ammo and other upgrades, I can get it to shoot better. I have already done that with another cz457. I wanted to see what I could do with a stock cz457 varmint rifle. I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

skin - Are those pics with the shims on the pillars ?  Prob would not make a diff, but I'd try getting the action Only on the pillars.  I've got an V-MTR that I've done that on, but haven't been able to get to the range due to ca 2-ft of snow.  Maybe in the next week or so . . .

No, that is the factory pillars. I don't have a picture of the shims.
