If you have a few grey hairs you'll have notice that rare are the current military rounds (even old communist block countries) chambered in new produced rifles. For those unaware of this round, it was adopted to serve as a lower weight/higher soldier carry ammo. Once converted in inches: .215 X 1.54, in my opinion nothing to write home about. Communist block countries were'nt going to adopt .223 cal. barrels(since if seized by U.S. troops could easily be converted). A few well made border patrol rifles were made for this round which was accurate. Little to no info. is available on this round: armour piercing capabilities, long distance energy, etc. Having a .215'' does'nt allow any bullet mfgr. or rifle flexibility.:(

The 5.45 x 39mm round from the AN-94 is a 52.4gr or 55.5gr at 2,952 fps for a muzzle energy of 1,012 or 1,072 ft lbs respectively.  Nothing of much note.  Current and past varmint rounds cover this ballistically.   There is a subsonic round for suppressed rifles with an 80gr bullet at 994fps with a muzzle energy of only 175 ft lbs.:x    No my idea of a combat round in any case!
