Older P10C Mag Release Upgrade???
« on: May 26, 2023, 09:59:29 PM »
I have an early P10C that has the ambi mag release, I’ve had it since release. It has a HBi theta trigger and I upgraded the sights. Gun runs flawless although I haven’t shot it as much as my old SP01 Shadow, 10c probably has 2000 rounds through it and I’ve never had any issues except the mag release.

Is there an upgrade to go from the old ambi release style to a one sided extended release? My mags drop fairly well but def not freely like I want them to and I need to figure this out for USPSA CO.

I’m about to set up a slide for optics but I’d like to get the mags dropping as best I can prior to that.

As I understand it, the way to get the mag release working more easily is to keep using it and it gets easier with time, I'm not sure that starting over with a new mechanism would improve things in that regard.  It doesn't seem like it would be an upgrade to go from ambi to one side only, but maybe the design is easier to push the button on.  Also, the original mags will not work with the newer mag release, as the holes in the front of the mags were changed when they went to the new system.  New mags will work with the old, but not the reverse.

I took mine out. Filed/buffed a couple of rough places. Lubed it with synthetic motor oil. And it started behaving nicely.

It works. I do not struggle with the button itself, but the mags fail to drop freely, the mag is rubbing just below the release somewhere. I had read it was due to the ambi slider in there that releases the mag, maybe I need to take a better look at the mags/wear marks.

The button itself is all good, but thanks for the tip.

Did your mags drop freely or did you have to work to get them to drop the way a competitive pistol should?

Don't use the gun for competitions, so I've never checked that detail. But they are fairly easy to remove.
