Ordered a few parts today
« on: July 11, 2023, 08:26:23 PM »
Recently purchased a PCR and I have watched many videos and read countless threads about this gun.  Initially, my only plan was to add a Dawson fiber optic sight from CGW.   Nope, I order more:

Firing Pin Retaining Pin
13# Hammer Spring
Reduced Power Trigger Return Spring
Floating Trigger Pin

I watched a few installation videos and wanted to do the things that did not appear complicated for me.

Did anybody have problems with their installation?  I am asking because many of those videos were using CZ 75 that were not bnib, and I did not know if that made a difference.  I have several punches, gun smith hammers, and needle nose pliers.  Any helpful tips would be great.  Thanks.

Firing Pin Retaining Pin - use a starter roll pin punch to get it moving.  Be careful not to drive the starter punch in far enough to contact the edges of the hole.  Once you've got the pin moving out go to a standard roll pin punch and drive it out.  I'd try leaving the punch in place to hold the firing pin in the right spot and correctly aligned and then drive the new pin in slowly letting it push the roll pin punch out till you need the roll pin punch to get the roll pin just inside the slide so it doesn't stick out.

13# Hammer Spring - make sure the pistol is empty.  Leave the hammer forward while pushing up on the hammer spring plug in the bottom of the frame to make the retaining pin easier to push out.  Should just push out if you have the hammer spring plug pushed upwards enough.  Then pull the hammer spring plug out, drop the hammer spring out, put the new hammer spring it after putting a few drops of oil on it. Then push up on the hammer spring plug to the right spot and push the pin back in.  You shouldn't have to drive that retaining pin in or out.

Reduced Power Trigger Return Spring - that's the tricky one.  Some of the guys here have modified other tools (pliers, etc.) to make that easier.  Hopefully one of them will chime in with their tool mods/recommendations.

Floating Trigger Pin - the original will have to be driven out with a punch/hammer.  The new one you bought should push right easily.

I watched a few installation videos and wanted to do the things that did not appear complicated for me.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

FWIW, here is my CZ starter tool pack  ;D

-5/64" (2mm) roll pin punch for the front sight retaining pin
-1/16" pin punch for the trigger pin.  Start from the side that is less "peened".
-1/8" (3mm) pin punch for the the firing pin retaining pin.

Be sure to use a firm surface so that the pin punch does not "bounce" when you drive it.
If this is your first time, consider wrapping the slide with some blue masking tape to protect the finish, in case you missed a hit.

Be careful how you put the roll pins back.  If you don't tap it/hit it square on, it will be flared or bent.  It happened to me during my first install.  Also, some trigger pins are notorious difficult to get out.  If that's the case, you will need a solid pin punch and a bigger hammer, and give it a firm but controlled hit to get it started.

With the floating trigger pin, use a slave pin (or the old front sight retaining pin) to hold the trigger and the spring together.  I use the 5/64 roll pin punch to put the trigger assembly in the frame and then replace it with the floating trigger pin to complete it.

Take your time and have fun with the upgrade.

Thank you for this.  My parts should arrive on Thursday, and I hope to do this early Friday morning with no disturbance.

Hammers.  Like many things I've made a journey out of hammers.

I started with a plain old tack hammer.  Guns can be delicate.  Pins are small and easily bent/damaged.  Small hammer, small punches, small pins.  Two things about a small hammer.  It has to move faster to impart enough force to move some pins and it's got a small head your trying to hit a small punch with.

I next bought a 2.5 lb. "shop hammer" with a short handle.  Big head, never have to move it fast as the weight imparts plenty of force/impact at slow speeds and it's almost impossible to miss the punch with.

Awhile back I was watching a video from a well known custom shop and the guy had a hammer I'd never seen before.  Big, but not shop hammer big.  Head made so that the weight was lighter but still had a large diameter striking surface.  Someone here told me the one I bought (similar to the one in the video) was acrually an auto body repair hammer.  All I know is it makes driving pins in/out of a slide/frame easier than either of the first two hammers I tried.

If you seldom need such a hammer no use in buying one, but I'm always fiddling with one gun or another whether it's sights, triggers, springs, polishing, etc. so this one is working well for me.  Ordered it from Amazon.

If this is your first CZ then you haven't yet realized they seem to accumulate at your house/in your safe.  Starts with one.  Then you got three.  Someday your realize you've got 6 or 7.  If you really count you may find you've got several more.

I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

First congratulations on or first CZ and be careful like M1A4ME said they multiply I have 14 right now. Because you bought a decocker you should watch this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUTEmpSx4zU&t=265s.

The sear cage and removal of it is a little more complicated than the standard 75 series. Also you might want to get a couple of extra parts to have on hand and get the decocker slave pin to save yourself a headache putting it back together. One thing to remember take your time, learn while your working and make it fun or you'll start throwing stuff around (wait sorry that's me lol). Look into these parts. https://cajungunworks.com/product/s-pin/ https://cajungunworks.com/product/62-decocker-lever-spring/ https://cajungunworks.com/product/63-sear-pin-retaining-washer-2/ https://cajungunworks.com/product/12-sear-spring/  Enjoy your new CZ.

This is so true.  I've got 5 hammers sitting in the garage  ;D

For CZs, a 3~4oz brass hammer is adequate.  Only once in a while you will need the big boi.

Re: Reduced Power Trigger Return Spring
My P01 PCR P07 came with the red spring.
I picked up spares, but isn't this the new update/version and the swap no longer required (only as needed)?

Thank you.  Zero plans to do anything with the sear cage.  I know my limits.   :)

One more thing, about spare parts really.

Look through the list.  Put what you need in the cart.  May be a lot, or a little.  Shipping is about the same whether you buy 3 little parts or 8 little parts and 4 midsize parts.

So, if you're going to pay shipping anyway, order spares of the parts you needed and maybe a few other spares you might need some day.  Whenever you order parts, get a few extra.  Pins, springs, small parts that might break - or get lost when you're taking the pistol frame/slide apart.  You usually don't lose barrels, recoil spring assemblies, etc.  You lose stuff like the sear spring, maybe the trigger return spring, the front sight pin (you're supposed to replace it when you replace the front sight but I like to have extra pins in case I need them), the little pieces.  You might find it in a few hours, or a few days, or never find it.  Nice to have a spare in the parts box in case you need it.  So far I've not replaced CZ parts for failure, I've replaced them because I lost them (or in one case through a couple small springs away because I thought they were pieces from an earlier failure that had been left in the rear of the frame.)

CZ's can be awesome from the factory.  They can be awesome (or more awesome) with some polishing/fitting or ruin you on other pistol brands awesome with the right aftermarket parts.

Order will be delivered tomorrow.   However, I will likely do this on my next order because I am considering adding a P-01 in the future.

Recently purchased a PCR and I have watched many videos and read countless threads about this gun.  Initially, my only plan was to add a Dawson fiber optic sight from CGW
...
I have several punches, gun smith hammers, and needle nose pliers.  Any helpful tips would be great.  Thanks.

Adding this tool to your kit will make replacing trigger return springs and pins a bit simpler:  https://www.dot40.net/product/eemann-tech-trigger-spring-tool/

Thanks, but $40 plus shipping is steep, imo.
