Older Witness 45 with LOK grips.
« on: July 17, 2023, 11:58:21 AM »
I acquired a 1996 vintage Witness 45 last month and am pretty pleased with it.

I decided to try some LOK thin Bogie grips on it. They required a slight amount of fitting, but fit very solidly....keepers in my book.

Greg

Very very Nice!!!  8)  :)  I really like the looks of the older Tanfoglio Pistols!  8)

Congratulations on the acquisition of your 1996 vintage Witness 45 and may it serve you well!  :)
Nice Grips!  8)

In my opinion, the Tanfoglio Witness/Defiant series .45's are the best .45's that can be had.
I have two of them. One built in 1992 and the other in 2005.

My 1992 Blued .45 Witness was my main USPSA/IPSC Major Power Factor Pistol and I rode it hard!!!
At one time, I also converted it to fire .45 Super, for a backup sidearm to my .30/06 Pack Rifle, for hiking in Black Bear Country.
It's needed a few parts to keep it running with the heavy use I've put it through, but it's still running well.
Also, this .45 Witness was my Winter CCW for about 5 years, and could still serve.

My 2005 Wonder Finished .45 has not seen nearly as much use, but has served as my Home Defense Pistol and I have used it as a CCW.
This reminds me that I do need to fit some new Grips I have for it. :-[

I love my Witness .45 from that era. Thanks for the heads up on the thin grips - I may have to take a look at those.

Thank you all for your comments:)

jwc007,
That's a nice trio of pistols you posted. I like the trigger on your 1992 gun....and that got me thinking.
The stock trigger on my Witness 45 breaks close to the frame in single action; that's not a problem, but I would prefer the trigger to be a bit more forward of the frame. Your photo reminded me that I have a trigger from a TZ75 that I had planned to try as a remedy for trigger slap on my 9mm Witness P, but I went a different direction with that.

I swapped the TZ75 trigger in and it moves the trigger face forward just enough to satisfy my preference. The trigger felt a bit short; so I heated it up and straightened it in a vise. It's barely perceptible to my I eye, but feels totally better.

Speaking of straightening the trigger, that's how I eliminated the trigger slap on my Poly Witness. I did have to shorten the length of the trigger afterwards, but it does the job:)

Very Interesting!  8)  Glad you are getting along well with your .45 Witness.

Glad you liked my pic of .45 Pistols!  :)

I have swapped out Triggers before, particularly on my old TA90, pictured below.
However, I have gotten used to the other Trigger profiles, so I don't bother with things like that much, anymore.

Excellent job on the trigger mod. I thought I'd hate the giant recurve trigger on my SAR and Witness P, but they've actually king of grown on me. I have an 85 combat trigger that I was going to put on the SAR, but I'm holding off for now. I may end up trying the heat/clamp/cut on it first.
