Extended firing pins
« on: July 31, 2023, 06:54:50 AM »
Comparing  CGW and CZC extended firing pins, which one have you had the best results when using hard primers and a lighter hammer spring?

The OAL favors CGW however the shelf for the firing pin retaining pin is longer on the CZC allowing it to excel on the pencil test if you can place stock in this test.

So all else being equal with light firing pin springs etc. which one lights off the more difficult primers with a higher degree of certainty??

I have or had CZs with CZC and CGW firing pins installed.  In my limited sample size (2 CZC and 2 CGW), they both performed equally well lighting off CCI and S&B primers with an 11 lb mainspring.  Never had a light strike with any of those guns.

I’m guessing the OAL off sets the extended shelf and vice versa. Hoping others share their experiences as well. Thank you.

So if everyone is in agreement that both work equally well, how much stock do you place in the pencil test?

While a pencil launches 5-6 ft with a CZC extended FP, the CGW barely comes out of the end of the barrel with similarly sprung pistols. Would this not indicate a greater degree of physical force being exerted on the primer?
