Flat wire spring color codes
« on: October 09, 2018, 08:24:35 AM »
For a P07, there seem to be 4 different color coded recoil springs available.  Anyone know the spring rates for the blue and green springs?

Gold - 15#
Yellow - 18#
Green - ?
Blue - ?

My .40 P07s both came with blue springs.  I?d like to run a bit heavier spring but don?t know what?s in there right now.

I know it's an old thread, but the OP is still active here and didn't get a lot of input at the time.  I probably can't help much but I've recently begun to wonder about similar things.

Years ago, when I bought my 2013 made P07 DUTY in .40 S&W it had the factory recoil system in it.  I ordered a P07 captured recoil spring assembly and modified the slide for the larger OD guide rod.  Been using that recoil spring assembly ever since.  Now I've got a 2010 P07 DUTY .40, again with the factory recoil spring assembly.  And that is part of my recent interest in "the right" recoil spring for the P07 DUTY .40.

I don't remember, all those years ago what the CGW, CZ USA and CZ Custom websites listed as info on the recoil springs.

The P07 recoil spring assembly I bought has a blue spring.  The one in the 2010 model is also blue.  Not saying they are the same weight springs.

The CZ USA website, currently, does not list a P07 recoil spring assembly for the .40 S&W.  The 9MM unit pictures show a blue spring and a silver, or gray spring.  Insufficient effort to ensure consistency or the pictures just don't show colors clearly.  Nothing in the text mentions spring weight.

Also, the P09 listings show two different recoil spring assemblies.  One fo the 9MM caliber and one for the .40 S&W.  If the P09 uses two different recoil spring assemblies.  One for 9MM and one for .40 S&W.  If the P09 uses diffferent spring weights for the two calibers I wonder if the P07 did, too?

I do know, my P07 DUTY, with the blue recoil spring assembly tosses empties 12 to 15 feet with my 135 grain Nosler hollow point loads.  I shot my reloads in the 2010 P07 DUTY the other day and failed to even thing about it then or pay attention to the flight of the empties.

The other day, when I ordered that stuff from CGW I ordered a P07 recoil spring guide rod and two of their yellow 18 lb. recoil springs.  I'll shoot my 2013 DUTY P07 next time I go to the range and see how the empties fly.

I really want to make sure I'm using the right recoil spring for the ammo I carry/shoot.

Yeah, I might be going down a rabbit hole, sometimes I do.  I've been going over the CGW, CZ USA and CZ Custom websites as well as others that sell recoil springs and so far there's not much to add about colors and spring rates or factory spring rates for the P07 (and maybe P09).
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

Ya the p07 recoil spring rates seem to be a mystery.. I’d get a regular spring pack and tune by how far your brass flys,
6-8ft is good

The color coded springs are from Cajun Gun Works - 18/15/13/11 # rated weights.  CGW recommends the 18 # spring for CZPO9's and the 15 # spring for PO7's.

The Blue spring in both the captured and uncaptured RSA is the same spring and the CZ rating is 20 #.  The only currently listed CZ PO7/PO9CZ spring is a 9MM captured Black spring rated at 16# and was introduced in 2015-2017 period.

I went thru the same challenge with 2010 PO7 .40 Duty a couple years ago - had an old spring and saw 18-20 ft ejection with it using 400 FT# 180 gr ammo.  the 18# CGW spring was about the same.  I ended up trying 17/20/22 # Glock 19 springs and settled on the 20# spring for my ammo.

Mi4ME:  your input helped in my tuning challenge - maybe I can return a bit back on your 2010and 2013 Front Insert question.  The short L shaped leg kept backing out od the hole in the frame - jacked around unsuccessfully with it and tried to buy the insert assembly you have in the 2013 gun but could only find the insert and short pin - every spring I bought turned out to be the L shaped leg spring.  Finally reshaped a trigger bar spring and used it succesfully until a bought a used later B series Insert Assembly on ebay.  But are interchangeable - just knock out the roll pin and lift the Insert out- there's a good utube video on complete disassembly/reassembly showing how the get the insert out.

Thanks I had thought (not very hard, yet) about buying a later front insert.  I noticed yesterday that CZ USA had them (or was it CZ Custom?)  for about $11.  I almost ordered one to try out.  Now that I know it'll work I'll go ahead and order one.  My 2013 made P07 DUTY .40 must be a transition gun.  It came with the short spring in it.  Has the hole in the frame there on the right side but the spring doesn't protrude out pas the back of the insert.  Zero issue in all these years.

There's some inconsistent info out there (Really?) about recoil springs.  I saw a website yesterday that listed 14 lb. recoil springs as the factory P07 weight.  I need to get my old microsoft office disc loaded onto the new laptop and start building a list with references/links and see if there's any sense to be made of all that differing info from different websites.

I've also read that the flat wire springs, like those in the P07, P09, P01 Omega and maybe some other CZ's are supposed to last 3 to 5 times as long as the older round wire springs.  Can't say it's true but it would be nice.
