Figuring out model of a CZ pistol using serial number
« on: October 18, 2023, 03:25:54 PM »
Hi!

My uncle died a while back and left behind some pistols. The police took them for safe keeping. I only have a list of the serial numbers and brands, and one of them is a 9mm CZ with serial number C170112 . Is it possible to find out what model it is?

Cheers!

Welcome from Georgia.

Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with all the sticky posts in the 'New Members' section. Together with the Help Topics in the 'Important Information' or 'FAQ' sub-section, these include 'how tos' such as 'how to' post pictures on the forum.

For crying out loud Wobbly, at least post some help instead of ripping him a new one. Can’t you see this is his first post.

Every new member gets the same post, since 99% of them neither read the stickies, nor the FAQ which are placed to help new members and visitors to the forum.

Hardly 'ripping him a new one'.

In 2004 CZ switched to a new serial number format. It started with an A then six digits. The format applies to all models.

Don’t see how it can be narrowed down without more to go on.

As I know CZ numbering system is not connected with specific model. It can be barrel only, it can be striker fired model, it can be something from 75/shadow line...
Only thing I can tell, it should be made in 2016. (early 2017. maybe). Contact your police department or CZ.

option, try emailing CZ USA, they may be able to look up serial number and ID the gun make, model and caliber for you.

Now why would the police take your uncle’s guns for “safe keeping”?

And the question is, will you ever get them back? The longer the remain in “police custody,” the more likely they are to “disappear,” so I’d get on with reclaiming them and getting them out of the cops’ mitts ASAP.

Here in the EU when gun owners die, family members, legal representatives or household members must contact the police department and hand over guns to PD. When the final order establishing succession is made, police give guns to the lawful successor if he/she has the right to own guns.

Yes, this is very common here in the EU. There is no real danger of "losing" a firearm into police custody. If the inheritor doesn't want the firearm, they have no obligation to request a permit for it, and can sell it to someone who holds a firearms permit and/or purchase permit.
