Bolt shims
« on: February 27, 2024, 01:30:38 PM »
Me and another member of our gun club have a CZ Varmint MTR .22 cal.
He installed bolt shims in his and thinks it improved the guns accuracy.
Myself, I don't think it improved it any.
Are bolt shims really necessary in a MTR?

Lots of answers to this question on the RFC thread.  Shims mostly depend on the ammo you're using - some rims are thicker than others.  More important is the quality of the ammo, shims are not likely to improve cra* ammo's accuracy.  If you're using 'Really Pricey' ammo, you might notice an improvement.  It's a cheap mod, and if it doesn't help you can easily reverse it.
Also, as said on the RFC thread, the VMTR only has a Match Chamber, the action is not different vs Varmint or American, etc.

PS - Many members have noticed that CZ VMTRs shoot better with SK 'Flavours' - personally shooting  out to 100yds I've found SK Rifle Match does best.  I also do OK with Eley Club and Sport, but SK is a touch better IMO.  I refuse to spend more than the SK-RM because I'm not 'playing for money'.
