has anyone else experienced this?
« on: December 24, 2023, 11:40:22 PM »
Ok, this isn't something I saved for Christmas Eve...just something I have wondered about.

I have heard, but never found proof of this thing. That a person can be more accurate "holding over" or holding up, down left right, etc....shooting when the sights are slightly off.

My story is this. I have a Savage 24 combo gun, 22mag over 20, that I have turkey hunted with for over 30 years. By FAR most of the birds I have taken have been with the 22 mag barrel. I dont like shot in my meat, AND Ive found that I am better using the rifle barrel- as far as success goes. Holding over a tad- I dont miss. Or didnt before I got older.

Time went by and in my career I attended several sniper schools, including one by the FBI...in each case the issue of "hold over" vs any minor adjustment, was discussed. I confess that i've "slept since then", but the fact is I do recall the issue being discussed.

I could tap the heads off toms with my combo gun under 40 yards, and it seemed holding a tad over to the left (in the case with that gun) steadied me....has anyone else experienced this?

If it's not a real issue in general it certainly is with me. I had it happen with two little .22 autos, once I figurd out where they were hitting, I was bsuting bottles in a creek over 30 yards way. With my bearcat that was spot on, I wasnt hitting them more than 1/5.
It's not saving any water if you have to flush it over and over....
