TA 90 Excam model ID help
« on: June 20, 2023, 12:08:39 AM »
I bought a very nice TA90 and am trying to find year of it. It has that odd G319xx serial number with no letters in box above trigger. Pics can be found here

Thanks!

Also, it is missing a barrel bushing. My spare CZ 75 ones appear too large. Any ideas where I could get more? I have emailed Tanfo about the serial #, awaiting reply.

Your TA90, which is an early Series 88 Tanfoglio Pistol was made around 1989 - 1990.
Tanfoglio should reply to your email with an exact date of manufacture.
I also have that exact same model. Mine has proven exceptionally accurate.
Also note that when new, it required some break in shooting of about 500 rounds.

Also, this series of Pistol, and all subsequent Tanfoglio Pistols use a Bushingless Barrel Lockup,
so there is NO Barrel Bushing for you to replace.

Thanks! Glad to know that there is no missing bushing. And, yes, I've shot a few rounds through it and it seems as accurate in slow fire as my Cajunized SP01s. I did remove the safety plunger and plunger spring to make the gun decock only, the same as a Beretta 92 G model. Also, went with an extra power extractor spring (with a coil clipped off, thanks for that advice!) to solve my stovepipe problem. I'm awaiting a 13 pd. recoil spring and lighter hammer spring, but I've already installed CZ 75 rubber grips, the old style CZ trigger and a Cajun reduced power TRS and love the result. I will try to put a CZ hammer in while I'm changing the hammer spring, but don't have high hopes. It also takes most of my CZ 75 SP01 magazines (of the 24 I have, it takes 21). The gun shots a bit low and I will probably solve that by filing the front sight lower.  I only wish the front sight could be fiber optic. I had my Beretta 92's sights drilled for fiber by a guy, but unfortunately, my daughter is no longer dating his son! I love the beautiful blueing and overall look of the gun even more than my SP01s! And, on a side note, while this IS the gun I own, I am not the buyer from Gunbroker; I bought it later at my local gun shop for $300!

OK, CZ 75 hammer doesn't fit, hammer pin hole too small. I really just wanted it for looks, so I'm ok with Tanfo hammer. The 15 # CGW Gold hammer spring went in fine and has a bit better double action trigger as a result. I may try #14 pound hammer spring, some other day.

For performance parts you may try Patriot Defense in Texas.

I just picked up one yesterday, pretty close to yours, it's SN# G31892, and kind of rough, but feels good mechanically.
