Slide lock
« on: March 20, 2024, 06:57:47 AM »
Good day

I recently had my original S2 repaired. It had broken the chunk off where the slide stop goes through. I understand this was a  common issue with the original pistols.  The repair looks great and everything seems to function as it should.  The problem I’m having is that it will randomly lock the slide back part way through a mag. Activating the slide  lock or racking the slide will let it go forward. I can’t see where anything is catching. And I have tried multiple different slide  stops. All with the same result. Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue?

I'm guessing it's your grip.  Most of the time when user's post this type of issue it is related to their grip.  Try shooting the gun where you deliberately don't have any part of your grip near the slide stop and see what happens.

The only other thing to look at is the small spring that holds the slide stop in the frame.  If that is damaged it could make it easier to activate the slide stop.

When you insert the slide stop, does it snap into place?  How easy is it to remove?

Cheers,
Toby

Thanks for the response. I can absolutely say it’s not my grip. I had over 100 000 rounds through this pistol without it ever happening. It only started after the repair. And it has never happened on my other S2. I have swapped out 3 different springs and multiple different slide stops. All with the same result.

The chunk where the slide stop goes through?

Part of the frame?  Not the slide stop, or I don't think it was the original slide stop, right?  Something on the frame?

Or was it the part of the slide stop that goes through the frame on the left side that actually locks into the notch in the slide and holds the slide to the rear?

Sorry, not able to picture the exact issue from your description.

But, if it was something to do with the frame on the right side my thought was something interfering with the spring that holds the slide stop in position.  It's what holds the slide stop in the "down" position and also retains the slide stop in the frame.

If it's the slide stop itself that broke where it protrudes into the frame to catch the slide then you had the slide stop replaced, right?  But you also say you've tried multiple slide stops and all of them do the same thing so it sounds like it's not a slide stop issue.  But something affecting the slide stop function.

More info, please.

So the repair was because a chunk of the frame broke off on the right side behind the hole that the slide stop goes through. It just needed to be built back up with laser welding and machined smooth.

The first gen S2 frames would crack above the slide stop hole.  CZ would warranty this with a new gun.  Have you talked to CZ about this failure?

Also pictures would help.  You have to host them somewhere and share links here.

Well, that makes me think checking out that spring tension on the slide stop is more important, too.

That spring actually sticks down into the hole a bit between the outside layer of frame and the inside layer.  If there's a rough spot in there it may be causing the spring some drag/friction issues.  Or the spring might not even be in the right place.

This is my CZ75 Compact modified to use a CZ85 slide release lever set up.  On the right side of the frame you can see the thin frame section where the slide rail rides with the thicker section farther to the left.  The slot between they is were the spring sits that maintains pressure on the slide stop shaft to keep it in position so it doesn't move and lock the slide back.  The spring fits into that notch/shallow slot in the top right side of the slide stop shaft.  You can see that long spring in the picture, too.

With no slide on the frame, if you put your slide stop in is it loose/floppy or solid as a rock and does it pop back into the normal position if you let up on it after pushing the slide stop lever down?  That spring should keep it from being loose/sloppy and make it pop quickly back into it's normal position when you, or the magazine follower isn't pushing it upwards.

And about checking on the warranty. I am technically the e second owner of the pistol so no warranty. Plus it broke way past the warranty deadline. From what I have learned mine lasts a lot longer before breaking than most.
