I have a new Shadow 2 Orange. I read that it was advisable to change the recoil spring to the lighter one included with it

I tried that and it would not go fully back into battery one out of every 4 or 5 rounds.

I have now changed it back to the original spring (had no cycling issues with this one)

Is this to be expected ?

What did the post exactly say why to use that spring? I bet that person was using different ammo then what you are using.

How much have you used your pistol? Round count? Shadow 2 Orange is pretty tight fit, and might get smoother with a bit of use. My Custom CTS variant (TS slide, SP01 Shadow frame) was so tight, It wouldn't return to battery with any spring under 16 lbs initially, and was still slightly sluggish. After about 2k rounds, it functions pretty well with 13 lb spring using factory ammo.

Ammunition and pistol fit would both have an effect on the type of recoil spring you could settle with. Too heavy a hammer spring can also complicate matters, but thats another chapter. You could use a lighter hammer sping, but check for light primer strikes on all the different primers you use. Hammer spring  influences the motion of slide during the recoil cycle.

Gun is probably still a little too tight to use the lighter spring.  Run it with the original spring for a few hundred rounds, clean the rails and relube with oil a few times, then try the light spring again if you want.

The only reason to use the lighter spring is if the gun muzzle flips down too much for an accurate quick second shot on a paper target in a run and gun shooting match.  It is also easier to manipulate the slide.  Downside of the light spring is possibly less consistent lock up and lots of bashing of slide lock pin.  If you are not shooting rapidly in competition, maybe consider sticking with the stock spring even after the gun wears in a little.
