Not really a CZ, but my first Colt
« on: May 03, 2024, 06:59:55 PM »
Been looking to expand my wheel gun holdings and this came up on GB from my LGS.  Saved on shipping and picked up this morning. A first gen  Colt Trooper .357 6” barrel in fairly nice condition with a western style holster. It’s a tack driver!

That was the department issue revolver when I started.  Old, well used.  Donated to us by the WV State Police.  The Chief used to tell the story of going down there to pick up eight of them.  They opened up a door and there were some metal drums in the room.  They took the  lids off and let him sift through the barrels of old revolvers and pick the best looking ones.

I remember reading (not saying it's true, but I read it) that the old model Troopers were the same frame/lockwork as the Pythons with a skinny barrel and not nearly as much care/fitting/handwork done in the assembly.  Our were 4" barrels with the same grips as on yours.

I was happy when it turned out the speed loaders I'd bought for it also worked with my S&W 586 and then the S&W 686's (new ones, too)  the department replaced the Colts with around 1983 or 84.

You've got a piece of history there.  Don't think I've seen any at gun shows in a long time.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

I have read the same, that the internals are the same as the Python but with less fitting.  Either way, action is smooth and she shoots better than me.

Congrats on a great acquisition.  I’m also a wheelgun ran, mostly S&Ws and Rugers.  Have shot them competitively in IDPA and where I recently moved to have begun shooting ICOrE.

For me revolvers are simply fun to shoot

Wow - nice score! I have my share of Smiths, Rugers and a few oddball wheel guns, but no Colts in the stable. It really is time for me to start doing something about that.
No matter where you're going, there you are.

Big congrats on your trooper. The action on the first gen Trooper is "similar"to that of the model ThreeFiftySeven, but not as smooth...
