Threaded barrel for a Shadow 2 compact
« on: September 20, 2024, 08:32:44 PM »
I recently bought a Shadow 2 compact and want to put a threaded barrel on it for suppression. Does anybody know where I can get one that does not need to be fitted?

OK. I found and bought a threaded barrel at CZ Custom, in Arizona. I installed it in the pistol without any problem. My suppressor is a Silence Co. Omni 9, which takes a 1/2 x 28 piston. I have both a right handed thread for my Springfield Equinox, and a 1/2 x 28 left handed thread for my B & T, MK II (which is a CZ 75 clone made in Switzerland). I have used the suppressor successfully on both pistols and just changed the piston out between uses. The Shadow 2 compact uses the 1/2 x 28 right handed piston.
I went to the range on Monday to try the new arrangement out. I ran 25 shells through the barrel without problems. Life is good. So I added the suppressor to the equation, and being fat, dumb and happy, I ran about 20 more shells through the compensator when it blew off the front of the barrel and landed about 5 feet away. There was a baffle strike of an unknown origin. The piston appears to be OK, but the threading on the barrel is stripped and has an uncertain future.
Needless to say, it ruined my day. Harumph!

Was the suppressor loose? (To be fair I live in Ca and we go to jail just thinking about a suppressor so I’m just guessing.).  Could a squib followed by a full round strip the threads and launch the can??        I’m just curious to know the actual reasons and cause of this. 🙃

It is POSSIBLE that the suppressor came loose, but after only 20 rounds I don't think that was the case. I am told that the torque forces on the right hand pistons tend to loosen the grip, whereas the forces on the left hand pistons tend to tighten it.
At this point I am hoping that the barrel is not ruined, and if it is, then I want to understand what happened myself.
This is my first suppressor, and now I am a convert. It's like buying a car with no muffler, and when you put it on, you wonder why anyone would would put up with that noise.
