What recoil springs work in the DWX Compact?
« on: August 26, 2024, 01:01:42 AM »
Not being familiar at all with 1911 parts but being really familiar with CZ parts, I'm not sure what all on the DWX is not CZ. Seems like only the mags and grips are CZ, and the rest some mix of 1911 and proprietary.

If I want to try out a different recoil spring, will a Commander spring be too long?

The DWX recoil springs are flat wire so any replacement will need to fit the guide rod. Typically flat wire springs are smaller in diameter than the old style round wire type. Wilson Combat sells a flat wire conversion kit for 1911's so I'd maybe look to them and see what they have to offer. But the real question would be why change it in the first place.

I know it's a wider diameter than the CZ flat wire springs...alreasy tried those. The Wilson option may be the way.

Now that it's broken in, and I have grips that fit my hand, it's an unbelievable pistol. I likely WON'T change the spring.

However, 11lbs is such a light spring that normal pressure from the thumb on my non firing hand is enough to prevent it from returning to battery.
