New 75b mags
« on: September 11, 2024, 12:36:37 AM »
Found a new manufacture for full-size 75 series mags I never heard of before. Brownells is clearance them out for $5/each so I picked up a few. They are Italian 15 rnd mags that look just like the basic MecGar 16 rnd mag. Really well made. I disassembled them to clean out any grease and add dry lube, but there was nothing to clean out. Have a link to some pictures (might be duplicates) I took with various manufacturers. New one is on the right with a red follower with a MecGar 16 next to it. The spring looks nicer and the retaining plate looks like it was actually designed for function, not just stamped plate. The witness holes are very odd. They are not numbered but you might assume they would be 5, 10, 15. Nope brass is seen on 6 and 11. Brass never makes it to the last hole. Took 1 to the range and shot a quick 10 rnd of FMJ (all I could get in by hand - like a newbie I forgot a mag loader.) mag seats great, drops easy and locks back. Loaded up 4 for tomorrow. If they fail I’ll post it up. Noticed they are labeled and stamped CZ 75, no B and was wondering if they might fit in a Pre-B.

Wobbly- found it here

https://www.brownells.com/gun-parts/magazines/handgun-magazines-parts/cz75-magazine-blued-steel/

Most of the reviews I read say it doesn’t hold the slide back after last round, curious what the OP says

No update, been fighting a headache. The 1 mag I opened and tested locked back 100% with a 75B, PCR, and Phantom Gen 1. At the range I used my old and trusting 75b. Don’t know if it matters but all my guns are older units.

Sorry a basic search on Brownells or Google didn’t bring up the link for those interested. That’s how I found them looking for some extra mags for someone else. They were also scared off by the reviews and are waiting on my results. Actually so am I. If I wasn’t so busy I’d unload them all and test.

Went to the range with the 75b and Phantom. All 9 mags locked back 100%. One mag dropped the slide when installed, but probably me hammering it (that’s why I have rubber pads on everything)

At home I tried all 9 mags + one MecGar 16 for a control in some CZs and clones. 7 mags locked back. 2 mags were problematic with some of the guns. They would lock back if the slide was racked forcefully, like under recoil, but not if you were lazy about it. With other mags or guns that might have worked but not these 2.

PCR, locked back and dropped 100% all mags
Canik L-120, locked back and dropped 100% all mags
Canik S-120, none of new mags fit. Thinking maybe the mag break is sticking out. Even the MecGar was tight but still workable.
40P, locked back and dropped 100% when you gave it a good pull.
97B, locked back and dropped nothing because it doesn’t use those mags. Just keeping you on your toes.
75b,  locked back and dropped 100% when you gave the problem mags a good yank. At the range 100% with everything.
Phantom, locked back 100% all mags. At the range 100% with everything. Didn’t drop free any mags including the MecGar, just an inch or so, but this is a known issue on MY gun. Only mags that drop free are CZ factory 16 and 19 rnd mags.

If I have some time I’ll see how rubber and MecGar +2 base pads fit. I’m guessing the fancy spring and pad will nix them.

Overall I’m very happy with 9 mags for $50. Only downside is I’ll have spend 2x that for rubber base pads — if I ever see them in stock and they fit.

I ordered 10 and they arrived today. The three that I tried in my Phantom didn't hold the slide open on an empty magazine. They need material removed from the bevels at the top of the follower to allow them to set higher in the magazine. I filed one and got it to work. Some sandpaper on a flat surface would probably work better. I need to find some rubber base pads for them.

My first thought. Then I realized I’m spending 2x more than the mag  :o. Still $15/mag isn’t bad. Plans on hold until I test fit them with my current supply.
