CZ75 BD adding optic options
« on: October 20, 2024, 06:03:38 PM »
So I have a 75 BD I have had a couple years, like it a lot. Sent to CZ Custom for trigger job a year or so ago and it is really nice. Started shooting Bullseye with .22 and want to try and use the CZ for centerfire, at 67 I need red dot for sure. I understand there are the optic plates that replace the rear sights without drilling/milling, and the other option is sending slide to CZ Custom or other vendor to machine slide for a specific footprint.

Is the no drilling real sight replacement optic plate stable? I'm sure this has been covered if there is a sticky let me know. Wanted to hear from someone who has done either method and how it worked out.

Thanks

I got an Outer Impact optics mount for my P-01. About $60.00 Easy to install. As opposed to dovetail mounts alone, the OI mount rides below the sight rail so it can't move.

I'll soon get another one for my 75B.

Looks interesting, thank you. I am reluctant to have the CZ75 drilled / milled and this looks like a solid option instead.

Should you get one, after you install it you'll see how solidly in place it is.

I also didn't want to get my pistols milled. That's permanent and should you take the optic off, it's ugly.

Some will say, "You lose your iron sights!" That's correct, but only partially. You still have your front sight and with a little practice, you can gauge the front sight through the optic and be on target for self-defense purposes. For years people carried snub-nose revolvers with a minimum rear notch and shot people. There's a certain amount of 'fear' from some folks about losing your rear sight, but I think that's 98% marketing-induced fear.

Optics have greatly improved in construction in the last 5 years and are dependable, even in budget optics. Change the battery yearly (they're cheap) and don't worry about it.

I'm OK with losing the rear sight, ordered Outer Impact plate yesterday. I am 67 and out past about 10 yards I can still shoot but with iron sights precision accuracy isn't going to happen. I plan on using the CZ75 BD with a red dot for Bullseye centerfire. Not a competitive Bullseye shooter just for fun and to improve and maintain proficiency. This looks like a great way to use a firearm I already have and love to shoot for greater accuracy without having to buy another pistol!

I have a 75B and a P-01.  I'm struggling with the idea of milling these as well.  This is an interesting product.  Anyone have photos of their optic on this mount?

Would be a great thing if CZ made some new slides with optic cuts for some of their older models.  I know that's a pipe dream.

I am a competitive shooter and have made the switch to dot shooting.  I went with the CZ Custom RDS cut and plate system for my Accushadow 2.  They have a cut for 75B variants so you could have your 75BD cut for the RDS plate system too.

I went this route as I wanted the optic as low as possible and I wanted the ability to convert it back to irons if needed.  They sell a fixed iron sight plate that you can mount your rear sight into and convert from an optic to irons easily.  This may not be valuable to you, but for resale it might make it much more valuable to the purchaser.

I have had no issues with my RDS Accushadow 2 and am completely satisfied with the fit and finish of the CZ Custom RDS plate system.  It holds the optic well and is superior in design to a simple dovetail mount solution (and the factory optic ready variants IMO).  I've seen too many dots fail in competition and wanted a secure and stable solution.  Having the dot lower/closer in the slide helps with sight picture acquisition (where's the dot???) especially coming from irons.

It's an investment over a simple plate mount but depending on your needs may be warranted.

Cheers,
Toby

The CZ custom cut is a really good milling job - I would definitely recommend that over a really high setup that doesn't require cutting.

Just a thanks to crc4 for the suggestion on the outer impact optic plate for the CZ 75. Purchased on and mounted it up, works great. Had never heard of them before so I really appreciate the idea plus especially from someone who had tried it!
