CZ&5B slide modification
« on: March 13, 2025, 12:28:34 PM »
Is it possible to put a compact slide on a full size CZ 75b frame and Barrel?
The goal being to add a compensator to the pistol, well retaining the original firearm size.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you

The slide from my Compact fits on my Stainless 75B.  I like the feel of the full sized frame with the shorter slide.

A 9mm to 9mm conversion is possible. Do you have a source for a threaded compact barrel? I haven’t looked in awhile but they used to be scarce. I have only done this with similar trigger systems; BD to BD. Not sure what issue you might have with mixing say an Omega with a SA/DA. It won’t work mixing models with and without a firing pin block unless you modify the lifter. Also would not recommend a compact slide on the polymer frame model. You might a want to expand on what you have to work with.

I have a factory CZ 75 SC (semi-compact). Its a full size frame with a compact slide/barrel. A 75B slide/barrel goes right on and seems to function fine with snap caps, have not live fired as I don’t see the point as I have a PCR, SC and 75B.

CZ custom has a threaded compact barrel bit its a little pricey.  I could buy a 75B barrel and get it cut down and threaded for less locally.

compact slide on the fullsize frame is no problem.
full length barrel will need to be modified for the compact slide
they have different top lug configuration.

A compact slide and barrel would be the ideal solution, but unfortunately I live in Canada. So a compact Barrel is out of the question.

My plan, (hope) was to use the original barrel (legal in Canada) with a shortened slide and a compensator. Giving me a compensated 9mm and keeping the original size.

My current available parts are;
                     Full size frame
                     Standard 9mm barrel
                     6 inch 9x21 compensated barrel
                     And a cut back slide.

How much modifications would the lugs need on the original Barrel?

Would installing the compensator and a cone bushing one the original Barrel and using the original cut slide be an option?

A compensator works by harnessing excessive chamber gases, and so they truly only work with extremely high pressure loads.

In my thinking those would not be good rounds for SD for reasons of
- Reduced accuracy
- Excessive recoil
- No linkage between extreme chamber pressure and "stopping power"

Sounds like a lot of work for nothing AND a guaranteed close encounter of the legal kind if the pistol was ever used. Are you sure about this course of action ?

What is your goal? If its decreased recoil for faster follow up in competition have you considered just porting the original barrel? This video gives some pros and cons from a reliable source (CGW) and mentions as above that it may decrease effectiveness of some HP ammo.

Thanks for the video,  it was very informative.

Sorry to say, I've reached the age that my competition days are behind me.
About 30yrs ago I had a gunsmith take one of my CZs and modifiy it to a long slide, compensated, 9x21 for competition, my second CZ donated a section of it's slide,  leaving me with a box of parts.

Over the years I've thought about what to do. I considered building another 9x21, but the brass is getting harder to find. So I'll keep it a standard 9mm.

I have a stock CZ 75 and a custom long slide, so a custom short slide with a compensator in 9mm would be a blend of the other 2. But now you have me thinking about porting the barrel.
