CZ 452 .22LR Varmint
« on: February 23, 2003, 01:39:04 PM »
I just purchased the CZ452 .22LR Varmint and am extremly pleased with it.

Out of the box it is a very accurate and easy shooter.
The only problems i had with it is the scratchy bolt action and the trigger movement, in which both were fixed with slight mods.
First i polished the bolt. I used just plain polish. Then i sanded the groove where the sear rides to make it smooth.
Then i filed the sear end that controls bolt movement. (The end that sticks up into the bottom of the bolt) It had some sharp edges with small burs.
Then the receiver was polished on the inside where the bolt slides. I used a fine grit polish and a drill with a M16/AR15 chamber brush.
Next, the trigger spring was replaced with an Ace Hardware spring. I forget the stock #. But, it's about the same size as the original and not as strong. My trigger is about 1# maybe 1 1/2#'s.
Luckily, the creep on mine was minimal and i didn't have to adjust that.
I took it to the range and shot it last week.
At 100 yards, a SUB 1" group was standard with .4" with 1 flyer being the best. The dot is a 1/2" dot.
Right now i have a cheap Tasco 8-32x44 mil dot scope on it. It works.
The CZ452 Varmint .17 will be my next purchase.

315.00 plus shipping. Got it from Impact Guns.
www.impactguns.com/
This ia allot better than spending 1500.00 on a custom Volquartsen of 1200.00 on tricking out a Ruger 10/22
IMO you CAN'T beat this rifle, especially at this price.

That "0.375 inch" group is really a lot closer to a truly amazing 0.175 inches - you are measuring the outer edge of the group, you need to subtract the diameter of the bullet hole to get a center to center (CTC) group size.   CTC is the standard for measuring group size.

Was that an isolated group or did you have a lot of groups in that general range?

It's always under 1". That was the best group of the day. Usually i get a great group with a flyer that opens it up a little. On this one i had 4 pretty much in the same hole and the one at the top opening the group up.

I installed Brookie's trigger kit and floated the barrel to achieve the following target (1"spots) using Federal's AE22 ammo. 5 shots in each one.
