97B holster?
« on: April 14, 2003, 08:57:54 AM »
Howdy! I am looking for a holster for my 97B. It will be for general use-not concealed or for competition. I would like for it to have a mag pouch on it. I was thinking something like an Uncle Mike's nylon. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks in advance!

Your best bet is probably something from Uncle Mike's, etc. that is nylon or cordura.  I have a generic "large frame semi-auto" holster from a company called Ambi, which I originally purchased for a FEG GKK (also .45 ACP).  It fits the 97B decently, but it is for range use only.  It's not too hot, but it cost me $5.  AFAIK, no one makes a holster of this type specifically for the 97B.

As far as the concealment/carry holsters go, I highly recommend those of Ken Null.  I have two of his Speed Scabbards, one for the 97B and one for the 75B.  I have never seen better design, craftsmanship, and finish in a custom holster.  These are not cheap; a holster and mag pouch cost $150.  They are horsehide, not cowhide.

Some people have bought several different holsters in between these two extremes, and the results have not been spectacular, by and large.  I would get an inexpensive nylon holster for the time being, and consider the available options if and when you want a better holster later.

I recently purchased a Safariland 5181 paddle holster for my 97 b. it is originally designated for USP .45 but fits the 97 ok.

I made some fine-tuning by heating  the holster in boiling water in a turkey bag and then molding it to the gun. It's just fine now. Not a road some of you might wish to take but up here in Northern Europe it's slim pickings. Anyway, I'm happy with the holster.:D

Good luck for your search,

I have the Safariland 560.  Its a great holster.  Mine was originally purchased for a Glock 17, but I use it with almost every semi-auto pistol I've got.  Its adjustable and is available in either Paddle or Belt mode.

See it here:

I bought mine a couple of years ago from Dillon.  They don't carry them, and I don't know the current price.

I have a couple holsters from KNJ here in Phoenix. They are ballistic nylon, have a thumb break, and an extra mag pouch. I like these when I'm camping as they help protect the gun and keep dust and dirt out. Their web site is at: www.knjmfg.com/index.htm

Give 'em a try. My local gun shop carries them, but I'm sure you could call them and order over the phone. They are very well made holsters.  My only complaint is there isn't a loop at the bottom for a leg strap. What I do is find a nice clean nail, heat it to cherry red with the propane torch and make a hole at the bottom tip of the holster. I then tie a  leather shoe lace to it for fastening around my leg when wearing it. This greatly improves the removal of the pistol from the holster. And using a red hot nail to make the hole prevents any fabric fraying from the hole. (wound?!?!?)  :eek

I forgot to add..... just get the one for a Glock 21. My G21 and my HK USP 45 both fit in it just fine. I'm sure it would accept a CZ 97B as well.
