Stovepipe issues with CCI blazer?
« on: November 23, 2007, 02:32:47 PM »
Has anyone else had issue with CCI? I like using it but I am having quit a few stovepipes using it. Could it be associated with my extractor spring issues? ( I am still waiting on my spring from wolff).

I don't really know. My new (then) 75B Stainless choked on Blazer. Shot the other 250 rounds of normal stuff just fine.
Others will probably tell you to switch ammo. Remember, Blazer alum is cheap for a reason.

It seems to be a problem that some CZs have with Aluminum Blazer.  I've not had the problems, but others have.

It's so cheap to replace the extractor spring, its certainly worth trying that, next.

Can't say that I've had that problem. I pretty much exclusively shoot alum. Blazer when I plink and never had a problem yet, and I've put I'd say around 3000 rounds through the last P-01 I bought. The first P-01 I bought had no issues with it either.

Had no problems with my 75B, but had TONS of problem with P-01. So I just stopped using it. P-01 can use brass ammos without problem, but CCI Blazers are not going well with my P-01

The aluminum case of the Blazers has a tendency to grip and seize against steel, more so when the steel is not pregnated with a lubricant or the steel surface isn't polished enough for the aluminum to slide. Brass on the other hand has the right alloy's of copper and zinc to give it a surface that will glide instead of grabing. Had a couple handguns that didn't like the aluminum cases but never had a problem in them with brass.

I have always had stovepipe issues with CCI blazer aluminum.  All 4 of my CZ's, but not my Beretta's, stovepipe on blazer aluminum.  The Beretta has a chromed barrel which may help.  If that were the only measurement for a gun I guess I would buy more Beretta's.  Luckily for CZ I can get Blazer brass at Walmart in 9mm and .45 ACP.  No more stovepipes.  Now if you can find a cartridge that will stop my hand from shaking, all my problems would be solved.  If you don't have one yet, you must get a P01.  Even with a rough trigger it is the most accurate 9 I have.

Chiming in...

In the last six-seven years, there have been hundreds of people who have had stovepipes in CZs with Blazer aluminum. There are ways to make it work for practice (Blazer alum can be dirt cheap, even now), which have been mentioned. Most people just gave up, because 9mm used to be under $5/box anyway. Sigh...
