recoil springs
« on: August 17, 2007, 10:39:09 PM »
Hello,

First, I would like to say hello to everyone as I am new to this forum.

Second, I just purchased 2 CZ 75B compact pistols and am excited to take them to the range next week. I was field stripping them and noticed that they have two different recoil springs even though they are identical pistols. One recoil spring is made of twisted wires shaped into a spring, while the other is more modern and normal looking spring that is green in color. Should I be worried about  the twisted-wired spring? It looks pretty acient and was surprised to see that in  the pistol! Any comments would be appreciated.

I take you bought (or at least the one with the twisted-wire spring) used?

Very odd! But, I can tell you from AK experience the twisted-wire springs are plenty tough. Still, you might want to go to Angus' Ghost Holster shop, or CZ-USA to get a newer version.

My Compact has the twisted wire spring, and its been working fine.  (I haven't shot ANYTHING much lately, but see no reason to think that type of recoil spring is any worse than other types.)

Springs in compact guns have shorter lives than springs in full-size guns.  They've got to handle the same force (or nearly the same) and have less space to do it in...

Both pistols were purchased brand new so I found this very odd.

Just picked up a CZ75 compact, 94 vintage, it too has the twisted wire spring. Looks factory to me, this gun has very few rounds through it.

For a compact for carry, you should have a small stockpile of replacement recoil springs. They wear out after about 1,000-2,000 rounds of 9mm. In a gun that isn't for carry, I wouldn't worry about it until it wears out on its own. (You'll know.)
