Give me the rundown on the P-01??
« on: January 03, 2008, 10:44:38 AM »
I bought my first 9mm handgun about 3 months ago (I am mainly a .45 man). I bought a IMI Baby Eagle (standard) I love it. I told myself that the next one I get will be a compact for CWP. I have looked at the IMI Baby Eagle semi compact and compact versions, there nice but a little heavy for CWP.
So I am seriously looking at the P-01. Im pretty certain it is lighter than the Baby Eagle semi compact model, but will check the specs on their sites later.

What are the pors and cons on this P-01 model?  i have heard nothing but good about CZ pistols, when looking for my first 9mm, I liked the CZ75 but the grips are a little big for my small hands.
I still havent yet found a dealer here locally that has a P-01 in stock so that I can hold and feel it.
The Baby Eagle fits my hand like a glove--very comfortable, built like a tank, and heavier than most 9mmm I have looked at, but weight is not that big of an issue to me for a standard 9mm, but the compact is another story.
Any feedback would be appreciated about CZ products--particuarly the P-01

I've had my P-01 for almost 3 years. I carry it daily.
No B.S.... I can't find a single con about it. It is, to me, the perfect gun for concealed carry.

What about folks with small hands.  You wonder why I am a .45 man, well most if not all 1911's s have big grips, well I got thin grips on my 1911's that eliminated that problem easily.
The grips size is going to be the main factor with the P-01. it just has to fit my hand otherwise I will look elsewhere.
Is the P-01 alloy or polymere?? or do they make both....I stay away from plastic guns, I like METAL

Mir - I own a PCR, which is basically a P-01 without the guide rail setup. I've also owned a few 1911's and if the 1911 fits you fairly well I don't see any reason why the P-01 shouldn't.  The P-01 has a alloy frame.

Heres a pic of my PCR with a set of Hakan Pek's grips -

Is there a Gander Mountain near you? They usually carry a pretty good selection of CZ's.

I am on my third P-01. My range gun is pushing 9000 rounds through it with ONE failure at the 6500 round mark. I replaced the recoil spring with a Wolff+, and installed a stainless guide rod, and it continues to run like a Rolex watch, only a LOT cheaper, and a LOT more fun.

Like you I've got small hands, and have been a 1911 shooter for a number of decades.  I'm very pleased with the ergonomics of the P-01.  It's very comfortable and controllable.

Since "small" is a subjective thing, let's do this the scientific way. If I hold my palm up, and bend my wrist 45 degrees up, the length of my hand, to the tip of my trigger finger is 7 1/4 inches. If you are bigger, the same size, or even a little smaller, you are  good to go.
Now THAT is science at it's finest.

There isn't  Gander mountain store in GA. If you like to try one,  (or SP-01) we can meet in Norcross range. Last time I saw P-01 was in Tucker Gun store and Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna. If you are interested send e-mail.
