New Owner needs some help
« on: January 14, 2008, 07:29:20 PM »
This past weekend I purchased a CZ 75b stainless for my wife. She has never fired a gun. We made a trip to Cabeleas so we could find a gun that felt good in her hand and ended up with the 75. I am very excited that she is getting involved in shooting as it is a true passion of mine. I have used the "Search" function and come up empty. i would appreciate your help with a couple of things. 1) I live in Cook County, IL. The 16 rd mags are not legal here. I need to purchase some 10 rounders, what brand do you recommend? 2) I steered her towards the 75 partially because of it's reputation for accuarcy. I want her to to do well. What ammo works best in this gun? Thank you in advance. Ryan

Someone with more knowledge may come along but I thought CZ supplied two 10 round mags with the 75B in those areas that have restrictions.  Maybe you  bought outside of cook county?  In that case I would call CZ and see if they will swap 10 rnd mags for your 16 rnd.  Or, someone on this forum might trade with you.  Post them up in classifieds.  Factory 10 rnd CZ mags will cost you $35.00 at the CZ on-line store and close to that at some of the on-line vendors.  Mecgar (who also makes the OEM) makes the only aftermarket mags worth having for almost half the OEM price but I don't think they make a 10 rnd version.

Hopefully one of the gurus will come along and be more help to you.

Check with Midway, I'm pretty sure they have some 10 rounders. And MecGar is the brand to go with. I tried to save a few bucks and buy "National Magazine", no go, didn't work, didn't even fit in the gun.

Ryank428,

Welcome to the Forum.

The general consensus seems to be that the 9mm 75Bs are marginally more accurate with 124 gr. projectiles than with the more common 115 gr. ones, and my experience with handloading 9mm cartridges for my 75Bs appears to support this notion. Your best bet would be to purchase some 115 gr., 124 gr. and perhaps even some 147 gr. ammo, shoot them in your 75B, and see which load yields the best accuracy.

I'll second that.

The pistol will tend to group anwhere from average to mediocre for about 100-200 rounds, then abruptly settle in.  At least, CZs do this in my experience.  I suspect this is because the barrel cannot be "broken in" at the factory like the moving parts.

Magazines - Best to Worst:

1.  Mec-Gar
2.  OEM  (Mec-Gar is now OEM)
3.  Tanfoglio OEM (depending on model)
4.  Ram Line aftermarket magazines for the Baby Eagle
5.  Pro Mag
6.  USA, National, and Forrest.  (None of them work, so this a tie!)

I may have forgotten a few.

I'd buy the 10 round mags for practice at the range, but hang on to the 16 rd mags if you keep the weapon loaded for home protection.  Who's to know?
If you do have to use it for self protection at home with the 16s, it could very well be worth being 'illegal' to have the bigger mag.

You might Czech out the GunBroker.com or AuctionArms.com web sites for 10-round CZ mags. Prices should be rather reasonable for range use. If all else fails, look into the CZ Classifieds under the General a bit further down the site.

It seems like someone always has 10 rounders in our Classified section.  Often people are willing to trade as well.

I may have to. It is getting worse. You can blame the politicians, but the citizens elected them. In Cook County I am a minority.

ISRA-PVF Alert for Cook County:
WARNING FOR COOK COUNTY HUNTERS, SPORTSMEN, GUN OWNERS

The most sweeping gun control laws in the nation will soon be voted on by the Cook County Board. Here is what they will do:

        * CLOSE ALL COOK COUNTY GUN SHOPS - Under the ordinance, no gun shop could operate within 1 mile of a school, church, nursing home, or park, and no two         shops could be within 15 miles of each other. BOTTOM LINE: All gun shops in Cook County would be ordered to close just after New Years Day.

        * BAN MOST GUN OWNERSHIP - Under the ordinance, all Cook County residents would have to register their guns with the Cook County Sheriff . Now read         this very carefully: You could only register guns that are currently registered. If you live in unincorporated Cook County, or in towns that do not         currently require registration, then you could not register any guns under the new law and you'd have to surrender your guns to the Sheriff. BOTTOM         LINE: Only residents of Chicago and a handful of suburbs would be allowed to keep any guns. The majority of Cook County residents would be forced to         surrender their guns to the Sheriff.

        * IMMEDIATE BAN ON HANDGUNS - Under the ordinance, the only handguns that would be allowed in Cook County would be firearms with a "load         indicator." Therefore, all revolvers would be banned as would most semiautomatic pistols. Also, other language in the ordinance would ban         semiautomatic shotguns and rifles.

        * NULLIFY LOCAL GUN ORDINANCES - Under the ordinance, home rule authority over firearms would be eliminated with the County Board being in full control         of fi rearm regulations. BOTTOM LINE: You cannot hide from this ordinance no matter where you live in Cook County.

WHO IS BEHIND THIS GUN GRAB? ...

Read the whole alert right here at         ISRA.
