CZ40B quality vs. price
« on: May 20, 2008, 10:45:28 AM »
Perhaps someone with more knowledge can help me understand the low cost of the 40B, I've fired a number of 40calibers and the one model close in accuaracy to the 40b is The Hi power practical model costing approx. 3 times as much. Im not complaining just trying to understand. I'm actually thinking about picking up another 40B/

Only about 700 were manufactured between the CZ and Colt variants, so there is a certain degree of rarity. Given that, I think that CZ should begin remanufacturing the pistol, if for no other reason that it is being "discovered" by the gun-buying/shooting public.

Come on, CZ, you had a superb product, pick up the ball and run with it!!

I think the early production run of Colt-roll marked CZ was limited to 800, but not the CZ-40B.

Since the initial production runs, there have been subsequent runs as well, with some coming out last year, too.

Low cost?  I suspect that Colt paid some of the development costs, which allowed CZ to lower the price.  It was a good gun, a "loss leader" that let it get established in the US (the primary market for the .40 round).

Wow! That means I own .287% of the entire CZ40B production.

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not really after you!

I remember reading the production quantity somewhere, but for the life of me, I'm having trouble remembering where.

There is currently one 40B up for auction on AuctionArms.com, and five on GunBroker.com starting bids from $295 to $380 on GB, should anyone be interested in bidding.

I have seen a couple for sale at local gun shows priced in the $350 to $375 range.

As noted above, the limited numbers cited (800, not 700) applied to the COLT-marked CZs, not to the CZ-40Bs.

We don't know how many 40Bs have been produced, but CZ has a knack of producing small lots of guns from time to time.  They are still turning out CZ-40Bs, some dated  as recently as 2008.  [Although we know that date stamp doesn't necessarily indicate actual year of production.]

They continue to make 40Ps -- even though, originally, we thought they were just made up to use up a supply of existing surplus 40B slides.

The only REALLY limited product guns were the Colt-marked 40s.   Those were all sold to a US distributor, and were snapped up as Colt collectibles.  Whether those were true collectibles with long-term potential for value appreciation, remains to be seen.

While the 40B has been made in smaller numbers than other CZs, there are clearly many more than 700 already in circulation -- and the number appears to be growing.

They're good guns.  One of the most trouble-free of all CZs, and an excellent value.  Buy one for the value offered, not for its potential "collectible" value.
