CSB-5 or Commercial 5 in 40 S&W
« on: November 09, 2014, 06:17:13 PM »
I worked up some loads for my Tac Sport in 40 S&W.

I was still trying to dial in OAL so it varied a bit.   4.4 was 1.12, 4.6 was 1.135 and 4.8 was 1.125.   Bullets were Bayou 180 RNFP, CCI primers, and various "good" brass.   All Win, Federal, RP, PMC or Blazer.

I was not able to build a test round that I could push test.  So I don't know what the max I can load to.   For now, I'm planning on loading 1.13 at 4.6 gns to make major with room to spare.

It was also smokier than the Freedom munitions ammo I have.   I have the same problem with 45 ACP.   I think I need to use the CSB-5 for 9mm and use the 7625 I still have for big bullets.

Have you loaded 180 gr with other powders and tuned those loads?

If you have,  how does the CSB-5 "seating depth" compare with those loads?

This is the first 40 I've ever loaded for and I only have 80 rounds through it.  I'm going to make up a couple hundred rounds to have something to shoot and then build some rounds to check accuracy at several lengths.

I haven't done much load tuning for any loads in any caliber.   My 9mm CZ can only be loaded with OALs from 1.115 to 1.125 with my favorite Blue Bullet 147 FP.   Too short and the rounds won't fit in the barrel.  Too long and we slam into the rifling on feeding.
Yes, I know I can get the barrel reemed, but I load for my son's 2 CZ's also and my current load shoots 1.5in groups from a rest at 15 yds.   That works for me.

In 45 I have a similar problem.    My SAR K2 45, likes shorter rounds than my Dan Wesson.  I load so it all fits.

The Tac Sport is the first gun I've purchased that has a wide OAL window.  I will try to tune it quite a bit.   I'm not in any hurry.   Production is just fine for now.
