Why a P-07 when we already have a Phantom?
« on: March 04, 2009, 09:59:23 AM »
The Phantom already filled the polymer niche.  Why did CZ roll out another polymer?  What does the p-07 offer than couldn't just have easily been incorporated into the Phantom?

The Phantom is a full sized sidearm, meant for open carry and LE duty, while the P07 can fill both the niche of a duty gun and a CCW rig. The P07 will find acceptance in both avenues, and I have a sneaking suspcision it will help to topple the Glock 19 off it's pedastal. 8)

The 19 shot Phantom would be lighter than a 75B to carry, but still as big.

I own a Phantom.
I have handled a P-07 and plan on getting one.

I can see two reasons we need the P-07. The P-07 is more concealable and the price is much less than the Phantom.

Price is one reason...but also the pistol itself uses a different trigger which I think CZ was anxious to try out.  I like everything but the oversized trigger guard.  The Phantom will not go after the XD/M&P market as well as a $500 Duty will.  This is a simpler, easy pistol with more options for the money than the competition.  As far as going after the Glock market, that remains to be seen.  Personally, I think that 95% of Glock sales are to Police, Glock-aid Drinkers, and first time gun buyers who just want to buy a name.  That market is a long-shot for CZ.  If their rep agencies can get them into dealer cases across America (another long shot), and CZ can make enough to meet demand (yet a third long shot), then the Pistol will do well in its class.
