A question about my new Wolff recoil spring.
« on: February 07, 2007, 12:49:37 PM »
I just received my 16lb. Wolff replacement recoil spring but it seems way too big to fit the gun.  I am unable to get the recoil guide to connect to the barrel again.  Not only that, but neither end of the spring fits tightly around the recoil spring guide like the factory spring does.  There are also two other much smaller springs that came with the recoil spring.  I am wondering what those springs are for.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as I have never done any pistol modifications and certainly don't want to damage mine.  Thanks.

I would suggest contacting Wolff and asking them if by chance they packaged them wrong. Go to the source first. They may be able to correctly diagnose the situation.

Wolff springs for the CZ are REALLY springs for the Tanfoglio guns, and they don't fit tightly to the guide rod.  What you've got is correct.

A new spring will be noticeably longer than an older one, but within a few weeks, they will compress slightly and take a set.

The other springs are a pre-B and B-model firing pin spring.  You can just set them aside.  There's no real reason to swap them out in a "B" model unless you know there's a firing pin spring problem.

If you want a tight-fitting spring, you can order the springs for a Browning Hi-Power, which are similar to the factory CZ springs.  They have 14-pounders (CZ factory weight) and some a bit more; they are variable rate springs, which is OK.  The standard BHP spring is 18 pounds, I think.

I thought the other springs in my wolff pack looked more like main springs than firing pin springs, but I haven't changed either in any of my guns so I can't say for sure.  They just looked a little long to fit in that part of the slide.

I think you'll find that they're way too small (diameter) to work as a main spring.  The two different lengths are for pre-Bs (longer) and B's shorter.
