CZ 97B Slide not locking
« on: August 22, 2009, 07:52:19 PM »
I have a brand new CZ97b, very happy with it when I got it as I waited for this for a long time. Anyway the problem that I have is when I put an empty magazine into the pistol and pull the slide it will not lock. I have clean the gun and the magazine already. When I put the other magazine it will lock sometime but also when the slide is lock and you press the mag released button the slide will go to battery. I am very disappointed and I tried to call CZUSA and I was told by CS to ship the gun to them but I told them that I just paid $650 on this gun and do not want to spend more money to shipped it to them, so CS said he will speak to his supervisor to see what they could do, he came back and said to me that he talked to the gunsmith and suggest that I should fire the gun and break it in first. I told him that I dont think that will solve the problem and also told them that I never had that problem inmy other 3 CZ, and the respond I got from him is that it is a different model. Correct me if I am wrong but all of this pistols are base on the CZ75 model isn't it? I thought that CZ have good CS? Pls.help if anybody had this problem.

Maybe I'm missing something here but if you want to avail yourself of customer service with CZ or any other company that manufactures consumer products you must meet them halfway and that may mean returning the pistol to CZ USA.

Yes it is very similar to the 75 platform but it uses many different parts and is a different frame.

Since you don't want to return it and you apparently won't follow their recommendation to just shoot it a little what exactly do you want? ??? ??? ???

If it were my pistol I'd make sure the mags are free of shipping oil and just shoot it for a few hundred rounds.

ChoyDiama,

No one wants to have problems with brand new $650.00 pistol.  This I understand.  The good news is, this is probably really easy to diagnose and remedy.  I suggest removing the slide assembly, this way you can see exactly what's going on with the slide lock and the mag.  I had a CZ-75 that had a high spot on the plastic follower; once I lighly sanded this area, problem solved.  You could remove the mag floorplate and mag spring and use a wooden dowel to push the follower up and see if the slide lock moves up with the mag in the frame.  This could be a start.

You indicated one mag doesn't work, one kinda' does.  There are several very talented CZ pistolero's on this sight, DoublePedro and Stuart to name 2.  If you look carefully, maybe take a few close up pics and post, someone could help identify the problem.

I have not personally experienced this problem nor have heard of others with a similar problem. But as schmeky suggested, try to diagnose the problem with the help of some very knowledgeable CZ'ers here and I'm sure you will find the remedy.

Good luck.
