CZ82 GRIP QUESTION
« on: September 03, 2009, 06:11:24 PM »
I picked up a CZ82, due to the hot weather here the grip is slippery. I was think of putting a houge handall on it. Those of you who might have gone this route what size did you need?

I didn't go with the houge because of the price. I simply went to wal-mart. Bought a Bicycle inner tube for $3; and cut my own. And because of the size of the inner tube, I have enough left over to make about 20 more. Much easier, cheaper, and you really can't tell much difference. OH YEA;;; it work real well too for gripping. And for those of you familiar with the grip screw gradually loosening up when you fire; this stops that also.

They do make a kind of "tape" that would work as well. No adhiesive, it sticks to itself and stretches to like 3 times it's original length. I think it's called Miracle Repair Tape or like that.
I have a CZ and some other guns.
I really want to have more. That's not a bad thing.

Sounds like veterinary adhesive gauze tape.
Is it gauze like?

No, it is like rubber. It is used as a tool handle wrap and it will also wrap around water pipes and stop leaks temporarily. It sticks to it self quickly but not immeadiately so it can be fixed if miss wrapped.
After an hour or so it is permanantly bonded to itself (this is all from memory so I could be off a bit).
All you need to do to take it off is make a small cut in it and start pulling.

Seems that the overlap would not make for the best comfort. The $4 inner tube is one solid piece of rubber. Does exactly what the hoagu slip on grip does, but a lot cheaper and easier to use. And you can cut it exactly the way you want it to look. Plus, you can buy it at any kmart, walmart, target, and probably any other place you can think of. I've used different types of tape. The rubber inner tube is by far the best. It doesn't get dirty, doesn't absorb sweat, doesn't slip, etc... Anyway, just 1 opinion.

I will admit I haven't done it to my 82 but I do use it on my drum sticks. The overlap is not an issue for that. It is very thin. that being said. I like the idea of the inner tube very much. I am luck that the original grips on mine are, and do not get loose when shooting. I love all of the tips and advice on this site.

Hey Guys,

Good thread.  +1 for the Hogue Handall.  They work very well for improving both grip feel and recoil.  Cost is ~10 bucks.  They are a very tight fit so use a little WD-40 on the grip and on the inside to slide it on.

If all you're looking to do is improve a slippry feel, I came across this a while back.  There are other sites that go into this technique as well.

You add stipples your plastic grips using a soldering iron.  Most grips on the '82s are kinda beat up, so this may also be a good route to pretty them up and maximize friction.

Post a pic if you go ahead with the hot soldering iron mod...

Take care,

Tman
