Popped out with Rob last evening to see if we could find a fox or two.
We found this...
A nice young Roe buck for Rob.
For once we decided to walk instead of drive around this piece of land as it was still light and we had time to kill until darkness came.
Rob had his 22-250 and i had my trusty 6.5, not much was going to get away tonite we said as we wandered off.
The first few fields gave us nothing except a few rabbits if one of us had brought a .22
Then we crossed a large paddock to see this fine chap feeding in the bottom corner. So with the wind in our faces we slowly made our way down the hedgeline until we were behind some scrub. I told Rob this was going to be his buck and he smiled
I handed my 6.5 to Rob and he crawled around the scrub with me right behind him.
Once in postion i ranged the buck who was still feeding broadside he was 151 yards away.
Rob slowly chambered a round and stettled himself behind the rifle....
The buck was waist deep in some long grass and scrub so i told him to go for a neck shot
At this point it was deadly quiet and i could hear Rob control his breathing, the buck brought his head up and continued to chew until BANG!
I watched the round impact perfectly on the buck's neck which seemed to fold back 90 degrees at the impact point and it just collapsed to the ground.
Another round chambered and we waited .....
Nothing, so we slowly made our way to the buck.
And a loverly thing he was too.
I think Robs still smiling now
