CZ82 - Magazine doesn't want to drop
« on: August 17, 2009, 09:17:16 PM »
The mags won't drop out of my CZ-82 easily.  I have to depress the mag release button with one hand, and pull the magazine with the other.  They will drop easily with the grips removed or with the grip screws loosened.  Problem is, with the screws sufficiently loosened, they will back out during firing.  The left side grip, when loose, will engage the slide lock and lock the slide back on a mag that's not empty.

Anyone else have this problem, or know of a fix?

If the screws are too long, you'll see scratches on the sides of the magazine where they've been scraping the bluing off.  You can simply grind the tips of the screws shorter with sand paper.  You'll want to touch up the threads at the tip with a little file or a pocket knife.

Remember to lightly oil your mags like you lightly oil the pistol's exterior.  It helps protect the metal from corrosion (rust) and it helps lubricate the mag as it slips in and out of the pistol.

Many advocate NOT lubricating mags...  maybe the outside... but most meticulously clean the INSIDE of their mags, and make certain there is NO LUBRICANT  in the mag.

The design of the grip on the CZ vz82 has 2 strips on the inside of the removable plastic pieces that run parallel to the line of travel of the mag in and out of the grip.  I have found that by loosening (slightly) the screws that hold the grips on, I can adjust how the mag ejects.

I ran into this problem on mine after field stripping and removing the handles for clean up...  is that when it started happening to you?  If so, you may just have overtightened the grip screws, as I did (mine all ejected just fine until I did the cleaning).

Another thought... you could (JUDICIOUSLY) sand off some material on those two strips in the each half of the grip.
But, if it were me, I'd just loosen the screws a tad... If they start working out, a little releasing locktite on the tips of the screws shouldn't hurt anything.

On my CZ82 I made a couple of small washers cut out of an aluminum soda can and put one between the grip and the frame on the grip screw on each side.  The grips still are on solid and the screws are on tight. It made a big difference in how the magazine comes out.
